Redskins take more body shots

The pinata continues to be bashed from every side. And it would appear that this trend isn't going to go away any time soon.

* A new radio spot for American Service Center and Mercedes Benz of Alexandria has been playing on ESPN 980. You know, the station owned by Daniel Snyder, and the official station of the Redskins? Yeah, that station. Here's how it goes:

The fans of the burgundy and gold, they're passionate about...winning. Sadly, this football season has been anything but spectacular, and you're left listening to a game that's far from entertaining. Well, at American Service Center and Mercedes Benz of Alexandria, we think that just because the team can't score, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to. So right now, bring in your tickets to a certain pro football team, and we'll give you face value towards any new Mercedes in stock. We'll even donate those tickets to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington. Visit our showrooms in Arlington, just off 66, and in Alexandria just off 395 for complete details, and visit us online at You may not be able to watch a winning football team, but you can still drive like a champion.

Hey, at least they're not donating the tickets to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Philadelphia.

* Tank McNamara has at Daniel Snyder again. (See larger image here.) Remember, in 2001 the comic strip dubbed Snyder the "Sports Jerk of the Year." This entire week will be devoted to strips making fun of the team's front-office. Michael Cavna of The Post's Comic Riffs blog interviewed co-creator Jeff Millar about the latest assault:

The plain nuttiness of carving the game into chops, flank steak and the two-minute drill practically brings tears of gratitude to my eyes. Sorry, 'Skins fans. Snyder set a week's material down in front of us. It's just business. According to The Post, there's still another guy calling select plays. To adapt Casey Stengel: "Can't anybody here coach this game?" Casey, yes. Apparently anyone who wants to, except the sitting head coach.

So add "Comics" to the list of sections of the paper that have taken up the offensive.

* Oh, and add "advertising," too. This spot from the Washington Freedom ran in Monday's Sports section. See larger image here. (Via Soccer Insider)

Don't give Stan Kasten any ideas...

For humorists, Snyder ranks right up there with Dan Quayle and George W. Bush as a rich source of material. They'll all mourn the day he sells the team just as they did when Quayle and Bush left office.

But fans sure as hell won't.

Haven't those kids suffered enough without having to go see the Foreskins play?

Even the Wall Street Journal is piling on.

All this bad PR pretty much completes the transformation - the Skins are now a bottom-tier NFL team (sadly, with an elite NFL team budget). They probably will be that way for a long time. Next stop, Browns/Clippers/Pirates-esque fan apathy. Nice work Dan.
