Matt Bradley on parenthood

Matt Bradley was skating at the Caps practice facility Thursday afternoon, a bit more than 48 hours after the birth of his first son, Henry. I was out at the facility to talk to Quintin Laing about life with a broken jaw, but I figured I would ask Bradley how everything went. His response will ring true for all the parents in the house.

"You know, everyone says it's gonna be this life-changing experience," Bradley said. "And you can think that, but until it actually comes, until you actually see him for the first time, there's no real words that can explain what it's like. It's pretty crazy when you think you had a part in creating [him], that that's your son. My wife and I are extremely thrilled. And extremely exhausted. But we're not complaining. Anyone who has kids has been through it. We're not complaining, We're not the only ones or the first or the last. We're just really happy."

Of course, Bradley is currently sporting 20 stitches on his cheek after being cheap-shotted by the Flyers Dan Carcillo, who's been spouting off about "When I grew up watching hockey, men were men and hockey was hockey." Bradley didn't want to talk about that incident, but he agreed it was noteworthy that young Henry's first look at his dad included a nice big gash.

"That's probably why he doesn't fuss when he's with mommy and he doesn't like being with daddy," Bradley joked.

And how long until Henry dons skates?

"Probably have him out on the ice next week," Bradley said.

(I also told Bradley that he has rapidly become a fan favorite, or even more of a fan favorite than before. "Yeah, a fan favorite for bleeding," he cracked.)

I'm disappointed he didn't name his son "Fan Favorite Bradley"

Carcillo shouldn't breed. I'm happy for Matt!

nice comments by carcillo. basically calling brads out as not being a man. not sure when carcillo grew up, but when i grew up, real players didnt retailliate after clean hits with cross checks. they took numbers and got them back later. they also allowed players to square up to fight and didn't sucker punch guys who weren't willing to go.

i think we've seen all the video evidence to show that carcillo is lying when he says he saw him throw off his gloves.
