Florida quarterbacks and the Redskins
The news about Gator Skins this week had nothing to do with debunked furniture store reports. Instead, it was about ex-Florida quarterbacks.
First came word that the Redskins had signed Rex Grossman, the former Gator. Then came news that the Skins were one of five teams to schedule an individual workout with Tim Tebow, another former Gator.
Which got me thinking, how many former Florida quarterbacks have significant Redskins connections? The answer was sort of surprising.
According to Pro Football Reference, only five Gator QBs have started at least 10 games in the NFL. Their names? John Reaves, Shane Matthews, Danny Wuerffel, Steve Spurrier and Rex Grossman. No NFL team has been so closely tied to so many former Florida QBs.
The last four -- the Redskins quartet -- have 1,797 NFL completions. The other seven ex-Gator quarterbacks with NFL experience have just 622 completions.
Now, obviously most of those completions from the Skins quartet didn't come in burgundy and gold. And since people keep accusing me of trolling for clicks this week, I'll openly admit that this entry has exactly zero real-world meaning for the future. Just found it kind of interesting, is all.
And if the Redskins paired Grossman with Tebow in 2011, the trend would certainly continue.
