How Vasquez celebrated the Duke win
Sadly, I keep writing about student-police post-game Duke confrontations, which weren't very amusing from the sound of things.
Happily, here's a post-game tale that's a big cheerier. It comes from Bog reader Johnny Foley, 26, who attended the game with his father John, his brother Matt, and a family friend named Ralph. I'll just let Johnny have the floor here:
After the game we walked across Route 1 to Town Hall to celebrate the win with a beer and let the traffic die down. Around 12:45, we made the walk back on campus to our car. By this point, the area around Comcast was dead and only a few cars remained.
So, as we are walking along the sidewalk, a car approaches from behind honking his horn like a madman. Of course, we think it's a drunk/crazy student enjoying the win and we raise our fists in the air, basically just to humor him. The silver SUV slows down almost to a stop and rolls down his window letting out a loud "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH."
Who was this crazy student? None other than Greivis Vasquez. It took a few seconds for it to register, but each of us instinctively followed his lead and yelled before he took off.
Maybe it was one of things where you had to be there to appreciate it, but I thought it was pretty neat. I just think that it perfectly exemplifies the reasons why this area has fallen in love with Greivis; his perfect mix of passion and crazy. Almost two hours after the game has ended, the dude is still fired up, and crazy enough to yell at a group of four strangers. He loves the game, he loves winning, and he loves Maryland. It feels good to root for somebody like that.
(And in the time it took for me to copy and paste that, 43 Redskins just got cut. Wait, 44.)
