Nyjer Morgan on the ice

The "Nyjer Morgan used to play hockey" story has been told a thousand times, and we're kind of running out of new details here: he moved to Canada, suited up for the Regina Pats, loved to score, wasn't afraid to drop the gloves, gave up the sport because he was too small, but still loves the San Jose Sharks. Etc.

"Like everybody else, at some point you're not good enough to play at an elite level and at that time he just wasn't good enough," the GM of the Pats later told the Regina Leader-Post.

Leave it to Comcast SportsNet, though, to get something I hadn't previously seen: video of young Tony Plush whizzing around on skates. I'm not in the habit of scouting teenage hockey players, so I won't judge his form, but he does have a nice little fistpump after scoring a goal here.

Rack Tony Plush. The WHL is an extremely competitive league that spits out NHLers left and right. I, in my finest hockey years, could only dream of even stepping on the ice for one of those teams.

Blow the whistle, Nyjer! Get in where you fit in, fool!

Further proof that the best athleticism comes from participating in a variety of sports as a youngster.
