Ovechkin's mom gives him a haircut
Alex Ovechkin once had a well-publicized sponsorship deal with Hair Cuttery; no idea whether it lives or not, but OvieStyle.com -- the Web site devoted to promoting Ovechkin's hair-styling ways -- is clearly defunct.
No matter. There's a new hair cutter in town, according to Versus's Charissa Thompson.
"That's right, six games without a goal and he decided to switch it up," she reported during Monday night's broadcast. "You know, usually he sports that very shaggy hairdo, but today he's a little bit more cleaned up, courtesy of his mother. That's right you guys, his mom gave him that haircut. And not that that guy needs to worry about saving money, but hey, can't beat the price. It's free, and obviously it worked."
Obviously. See this video of his third period game-tying goal, for example. That wasn't bad.
"I told him this morning, I said you've just got to work harder," Bruce Boudreau said after the game. "I thought he was in a mode where he was waiting for the play to come to him [rather] than going out and creating the play, and you saw it from the first two or three shifts in the game. He was going out, he was trying to hit guys and he had his energy back. And when he has his energy, he is what he is: the best player in the world."
Now maybe Stephen Strasburg's mom can visit the clubhouse before the first pitch and give the young man a little shape-up or something.
