Scheyerface, one final time

(By John McDonnell - TWP)

With all the attention paid to Maryland's win and the resulting celebration last week, I neglected to give any attention whatsoever to Jon Scheyer's final appearance at Comcast Center. It's been a wild ride, which I tried to capture last year during Operation Scheyerface 2.0.

This year was a bit different; the game meant more, and some fans were busy saluting Greivis Vasquez (also in his last appearance on the Comcast Center court). Still, there were hundreds if not thousands of Scheyerface signs, in addition to dozens and dozens touching on different topics. Many of them wound up crumpled on the floor after the mad rush to the court, but during the game, the stands hosted a glorious kaleidoscope of signage. Before too much time has passed, I wanted to take a moment to salute the artwork, one final time.

(Until the ACC final.)

Brilliant! I love Scheyer's "The Scream" - I know that is kind of a cliched image, but it made laugh. Out loud, even.

Honorable mention: Duke Makes Me Puke; Fail (Becuase only Greivis Vasquez can be ACC Player of the Year), Scheyer as Marilyn Monroe, and the classic collection of Scheyer faces. Oh yeah, and "Duke Supports Voldemort" was good too.

THIS is why people go to Maryland. Yay Terps!

Gotta luv Terps' fans creativity! That's why I prefer college sports to the pros.
Go Terps!

That one says "The Rock" johara. Close to obscene, but not quite.

I like the Kanye one.

Another sign that was near me at the game:

"Scheyer Punched Snookie"

Wish I had a picture of it

Another memorable sign from the game not listed above:

"Jersey Shore stole the fist pump from Gary."

I loved the Greivis shimmy-sign.

Wait, who is the number one seed in the tournament? Oh, right,

I don't think Duke fans have to stop reading the Post, huh, Kev29? It's nice to Maryland, but they're still not our rival. Beating a sad UNC team is still more gratifying. Not sure how the hell we got roped into this. But it really is fairly one-sided ...

The ONLY people who are dumb enough not to accept the fact that Maryland and Duke are rivals are duke fans. Even the duke players recognize the fact that MD is their rival. Ask Shane Battier or Jay Williams about their rival in college and they won't talk about UNC, they'll talk about Maryland. At one point, as recently as 3 years ago, MD had won 5 of 7 against Duke.

The bottom line is the ACC decided when they expanded that they would declare each team's 2 "rivals", to ensure that those teams would play each other twice every year. For Duke, their 2 "rivals" were UNC and Maryland.

Last but not least, are the Giants and Eagles not rivals? They must not be, since the Eagles are rivals of the Cowboys. But wait, they Eagles can't be rivals of the Cowboys, since the Redskins are already rivals of the Cowboys.

Do you see how asinine your logic is Duke nerds?

Love the Terp pride you have, but you are the biggest homer I have ever seen. We are the "secondary" rival of Duke, but to suggest that we are moreso, let alone in the same stratosphere as their other rival, UNC is just bringing homerism to new heights.

A couple more:
"Shim-wow" with Vasquez's face pasted over the Sham-Wow guy.
Duke Hates Puppies.

And although I didn't see it at Duke, one of my personal faves of the season was Sean Mosesly.
