DeAngelo Hall says Skins will dominate NFC East

Near the conclusion of Saturday's draft party at FedEx Field, DeAngelo Hall came down to the field to address the fans. Always comfortable with a microphone in his hands, Hall told this story of how a fan had recently asked him about the possibility of a 16-0 season. Hall said he couldn't guarantee 16 wins, but he felt good about 11 or 12.

Now, obviously he was playing to the crowd, but I asked him a few minutes later why he thought 11 or 12 wins were a possibility for a team coming off a 4-12 meltdown.

"It's based on the talent we feel like we've got," he said. "It's based on the improvements I feel like we've made. It's based on the scheme. The scheme alone is gonna give us four or five more wins. The games we lost by two, three points, we'll win those games, easy.

"We'll dominate our division, off of bringing Donovan McNabb in here, a guy who's dominated the division in the past. So that's just an educated guess. That's an educated guess, and I stand behind. I'll stand behind that. I'll fight and claw to try to make that happen."

That's...I guess optimistic would be a word for it. But Hall is correct that McNabb has had much success against the NFC East. These are, I believe, his records as a starter against the division, including playoff games.

11-7 vs. Giants
12-7 vs. Redskins
11-9 vs. Cowboys

The total is 34-23, which works out to a .596 winning percentage, which might not be domination, but it's sure better than the reverse.

Enough talking Mr. Hall. Please just play the type of cornerback that you are capable of.

The Skins will dominate as long as DHall doesn't have to make an open-field tackle on Kevin Kolb or Eli Manning.

Posted by: goose33 | April 26, 2010 9:34 AM | Report abuse

Ditto. I think fans would appreciate him more if he talked less and focused his attention on how to improve his tackling (think of his whiff on Jake Delhomme last year).

Keep your trap shut and do your talking on the field.

We'll dominate the NFC East as long as D Hall sits on the bench...

Posted by: scoopluv8 | April 26, 2010 9:47 AM | Report abuse

It baffles me that anyone really cares what Hall says. What has he ever done to deserve to be a leader? If you include poor tackling, constantly getting beat and personal fouls, then I guess he qualifies.

Offseason Champs!!!!

Hall is always one of the first to speak up but what has he ever done to prove that we should listen?

Posted by: jennifermbodie | April 26, 2010 10:13 AM | Report abuse

Hilarious! Made my morning. Thanks for the laughs D Hall!

Posted by: dwelkinor | April 26, 2010 10:20 AM | Report abuse

Thanks D Hall for again providing such an eloquent talking point. As fans we understand that the role of a CB involves posturing and swagger. Just a thought, actions speak louder than words and yet for teh great majority of your career you have speak about doing more than actually doing.

Posted by: Hank4 | April 26, 2010 10:22 AM | Report abuse

Well then prove it cause the track record says it ain't so, and unless you have made unbelievable strides in your tackling prowess this winter, we still are stuck with an overpaid cornerback who won't tackle and the other who can't catch anything thrown his way. We are weak at corner...how do you dominate the NFC East with this help ?

Posted by: outrbnksm | April 26, 2010 10:29 AM | Report abuse

Hall,,,,,put a zipper on it, already.

I miss the old Redskins that never said a word and just came out on Sunday, did their job and kicked butt. Darrell Green, today, would still be the best corner the Skins have. I do hope they teach Hall, Rogers, and especially Landry how to tackle somebody.

Foreskins will go 6-10.

Posted by: phoule | April 26, 2010 10:48 AM | Report abuse

Washington Redskins: Offseason champions. No one does the offseason like Washington. No one ever has, and no one ever will. AS long as $nyder owns this team, we'll be offseason champs. We've mastered the art of hyping a team prior to the season starting.

Wait, how does this translate to wins and losses? Not very well.

Posted by: HawksPride | April 26, 2010 11:05 AM | Report abuse

Ugh. Exactly the kind of rhetoric we DON"T need. We've been hearing this nonsense for years from the players, who have vastly overrated themselves. I was hoping a little humility crept in after going 4-12 last year and losing to several bottom-of-the-barrel teams. Ah well. Maybe Hall's right. Then again, maybe Lucy will finally let Charlie Brown kick the ball.

Here we go again! What a jerk-off! Last year he was boasting about how he demolished J.J.Reddick in AAU basketball (which has absolutely nothing to do with NFL football) and now he's flapping his gums about how the Skins going to dominate the NFC East. What he needs to do is concentrate on his tackling fundamentals and leave the predictions to the Football analysts. It really doesn't matter though...I can see him on the same bus with Clinton Portis on the way outta here. (What a chump)

I love guys like Hall. They say any old thing and hope you'll believe it. "We'll dominate the NFC East is an example." When Hall retires, shortly after dominating the NFC East, he'll become a) a sport announcer, b) a preacher, or c) a used car salesman. Whatever he chooses he'll certainly be able to call on his gift for BS.

The Redskins always dominate this time of year. Here's one for you, DeAngelo: October 31, 2010: Lions 21, Redskins 7.

Posted by: Jamz | April 26, 2010 1:07 PM | Report abuse

What do you expect Hall to say? "Ah, we're going to be terrible this year. Maybe 5-11." No, he said what every player should say regardless of reality. "We're going to win." Even with the deck stacked against em, I want every player to believe they can win every game.

Posted by: fmccain | April 26, 2010 1:09 PM | Report abuse

This from a defensive player who plays like he's afraid of contact! Media types, why you let this guy "sucker" you?

Posted by: whitaker200 | April 26, 2010 1:11 PM | Report abuse

Hall last year had a couple lucky catches as a result of bascially bad passes. Hall is no where in the talent category as Champ Bailey in the cornerback position.

Hall, please don't try to run with the ball after a reception this year. Just head to the sideline or just drop to the ground.

Don't you need to have an education in order to take an educated guess? We can't get rid of the losers on this team fast enough. There's to many to list.

BOYCOTT $NYDER OR MORE OF THE SAME FOLKS!!!

Two things...
When did D.Hall become team spokesman?
When will D.Hall stop running his mouth?
This is way too much talk from a player on a 4-12 team with no division victories.

Posted by: TCAP79 | April 26, 2010 3:14 PM | Report abuse

yes indeed meangelo, one of the hokie's finest ever

Posted by: mdoughtie22 | April 26, 2010 3:18 PM | Report abuse

Please refer to his real name of Angelo Hall. The D has been removed since his years in the league because he plays NONE! The only D that fool plays is his OWN! I've been listening to his loud mouth underachieving and overpaid hype since he ruined the Hokies by being one of beamer's first prima donna classes along with K.Smith. The media potrays these guys as hard workers when in greater than 50% of the cases these kids were born with god given talents that allow them to play on Sundays. With all Hall was given he's nothing more than a loud mouth waste of talent!

Posted by: jdb70 | April 26, 2010 3:44 PM | Report abuse

Plenty of haters on here, but I remember Hall when he was Hokie, and he's definitely got talent. 'Skins are going to KRUSH this year, all of you mean-spirited jagoffs go post on the Dallas forums where you belong.

D. HALL, PLEEEEESE SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE AND MAKE A PLAY!!!

Posted by: anw821 | April 26, 2010 7:32 PM | Report abuse

He should really stop talking as the surprise factor of the Skins will already be minimal with McNabb coming in

But now this? Teams will be roaring to go

Posted by: Bious | April 26, 2010 8:13 PM | Report abuse

You people may not want to admit it, but IMO it will take at least two years before this team rebuilds its O-line in the right way. I also think it will take that long before all of the team members get the system. Lets be patiant with the new plan for at least that long. PLEEEEASE!!!!!

Posted by: Justlistening | April 26, 2010 8:47 PM | Report abuse

Until the team proves it on the field it's just empty mindless chatter. Makes him seem stupid, especially given the lack of success in recent years. Less talk, more actions then maybe you can talk.

Posted by: Leofwine | April 26, 2010 9:37 PM | Report abuse

Will these guys ever learn? Make a play. Win some games and then talk.

Posted by: dcwizard | April 26, 2010 10:16 PM | Report abuse

I totally heart DHall ... not for his "on the field" issues (we have to wait till at least camp for that), but for his enthusiasms and the what not. We are entering the desert of the off season. NFL is a worst to first league in a blink. Skins are undefeated right now. Get better, DHall! Be better than Carlos (he IS better, even with the no picks).

Posted by: dcsween | April 26, 2010 11:23 PM | Report abuse

Oh, btw, as of Week One, Skins are 1-0. Book it.

Posted by: dcsween | April 26, 2010 11:25 PM | Report abuse

We will certainly be better than we were last season and I predict we will be in the wildcard race if our receivers produce as I expect them to but we have a tough, tough schedule.

Posted by: neil64 | April 27, 2010 3:48 AM | Report abuse

Actually, he has a bit of a point. When you look at the complete dysfunction and chaos that was the front office and coaching staff the last two years, along with the complete failure of our O line, you have to wonder how we won 4 games. The truth is, with an NFL caliber HC with an accomplished offensive system, I would be pleasantly suprised by 10 wins not shocked.

Posted by: kenboy1 | April 27, 2010 5:38 AM | Report abuse

Honestly, I am sick and tired of the talk of and falling short each and every year. Humble yourselves, play smart, come prepared, and execute to the best of your ability. Put up a fight and play w/ heart! That's all I can ask. So please stop w/ the over the hill predictions when nobody on this revamped team has played ONE down against opposing talent. All on paper as we've seen before. How about just keeping quiet and not stick a foot in your mouth just yet.

Posted by: hoganincharge | April 27, 2010 6:50 AM | Report abuse

Positive thinking alert!

Hopefully, our improved O-Line and McNabb will keep our D off the field a bit longer and the new D front will be more aggressive and force wild throws. D-Hall will get between 6-10 INTs next year and maybe even score once or twice.

The pressure will be off Rodgers and, despite his poor hands, he'll be in a better situation, when it comes to shutting down his man.

We could do with Buchannon and Barnes to step up, but I think the new scheme will help our backfield. Still want Sharper in to play (and couch the young 'uns) the FS.

Tough schedule, but I'm optimistic for at least 8 wins. The first of which will be in week 1. HTTR!

What do you expect him to say, "We suck?"

Posted by: largetony86 | April 27, 2010 9:16 AM | Report abuse

Hall has more ego than talent. He shoots his big mouth and pretends to lead but he hasn`t the brains or the guts to earn the respect of his own team.He needs to wise up, grow up, and shut up!
