Donald Brashear at Game 7

For the second time in this series, Donald Brashear will be at Verizon Center. He got to the arena hours before the puck dropped, and picked up tickets from Mike Green, one of several players he remains close with. I saw Brashear in a back hallway and asked whom he was rooting for.

"Not the Canadiens, that's for sure," he said. "I like the Caps."

When the game management folks ran a highlight reel of Ovechkin and then showed him in the stands during Game 5, he received a massive ovation from the crowd, even though his last stop was with the Rangers, not the Caps. Brashear didn't know the team knew he was in the arena -- he later found out GM George McPhee had requested the highlight package -- and Brashear said he certainly wasn't expecting cheers.

"I'm not even on that team any more," he said. "I've been gone for a year now. I guess they just appreciated the work I've been doing here. They have a lot of good players here, and I think they enjoyed the toughness. But if I had to go, I had to go."

Brashear said he remains close with Green, Alex Ovechkin -- who gave him tickets to Game 5 -- Shaone Morrisonn and several other Caps, but he declined to make a prediction for Game 7.

"It's gonna be a good game," he said. "I wouldn't know to tell you who's gonna win, but I certainly hope the Caps are gonna come out real strong and win. The best teams always come back on top, you know?"

Before he left, I pointed out that he wasn't wearing red.

"Well, I'm not a big fanatic," he said. "I just enjoy watching great games like this."

The highlight reel was the best of Brash fights FYI.

The ovation Brash got in game 5 was the highlight of the game for me, and I'm not trying to sell it short because we lost the game. It was a great moment.

The Donald was actually sitting in an upper level suite right above mine and he had a beer in his hand the whole game. I don't blame him for drinking heavily during last night's debacle.
