Montreal takes series win in stride

Just another first-round win. No big deal. Buckle up and get ready for round 2. Right after you finish making those ceremonial sacrifices to Jaroslav Halak and giving thanks for his Miracle.
The top image actually ran in Wednesday's editions, but I can't imagine the Game 7 result would change the sentiment much.
(Photos and images via AP, Reuters and the Le Journal de Montreal. And thanks to Jonah Keri for the tip on the Halak thing.)

at least they didn't do Halak as Mohammed. also, i'm sure Crosby is now going to score about 12 goals in the next series just to aggravate the hell out of Caps fans. ugh.

Hal "Octopus" Gill played for the Penguins last year, and I'll bet he has a lot of inside scoop for his coaches and teammates.

And people give Terps fans guff for our behavior. These Canadians riot over a first round win!
This would be like the Wizards printing t-shirts after advanacing to the second round of the playoffs ....

I love it!
The "little" Cappies lose(choke again).
The "great" Crosby is 100 times better than Ovechkin.

Where's the rioting in these pics? I see a bunch of people celebrating a hard fought, well deserved win. Nice that they get year-round coverage from their local print media as well.

The Canadiens are going to get swept next series. They're going to play a team (Pittsburgh) that actually wants to adapt to the Canadiens defensive style.

This reminds me of what happens in College Park when Maryland beats Duke. Shows that both Montreal and Maryland really aren't big time.

for: poguesmahone:
Your joking, right! Montreal not big time when it comes to hockey? Do you know anything about the Canadiens history?
We are in our 101th year - we have won 24 Stanley Cups....Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard, Maurice Richard, Guy Lafleur, Bob Gainey, Larry Robinson, etc.... on and on.... The slap shot was invented by "Boom Boom Geoffrion" - the face mask was invented by Jacques Plante....
Get a life!

i'm from Montreal and it wasn't the fact that we riot over a first round win.. we just wanted to prove everyone wrong that we "can" and have beaten the best team in the NHL this year.. Better luck next year i guess...hahahahahahahaha......
TO: JeadPT
is that what you said when the Habs faced the Caps to ??? lol... suck it up... the Caps lost and that was the beauty of being 8th seed and knocking off the 1st seed...
TO: JOSEELAROCQUE.. very well written comment towards POGUESMAHONE...small town people don't know much of hockey and where it orginated from... let him talk about his little college teams.. ( time to grow up and move on to adult stage there POGUE.

at least peoples (fans) from both sides when listening to the game (on tv, radio, even at the Verizon center and bell center)had fun i guess and could forget about their daily troubles...like major fraud, war etc....sport does that and big competions have the quality of bringing people together....it is certainly not the origins of the players that bring all these joys or sorrows depending of the side since those teams are like companies in short they are not from the village....hope Montreal go far this year if they deserve to win by hard work,,,but one thing is sure people should not get mad or insult the other side for hockey<s games....and peoples from Washington you have now our EXPOS...
bye now and have a good summer
