Tomas Plekanec slights Jose Theodore

Plekanec, far right, when his team faced Brodeur. (By Graham Hughes - CP)

You would certainly guess that many media members would point to the Caps' goaltending as a reason to doubt them in the postseason. It's an easy enough story line, and even the most ardent fans are probably wondering about the goalie situation somewhere in the back of their minds.

I wouldn't have thought, though, that the Canadiens themselves would be trumpeting this storyline in the media. Here was leading scorer Tomas Plekanec, via La Presse, with in-house translation help from Post colleagues:

"It's not as though we were up against Brodeur or Miller. They don't have a dominant goalie. And when you look at the season, you realize that this matchup of goalies is useful for our team. I think you could say that our goalies have been better than theirs."

Sure, you could say that. You could also say that Jose Theodore was 20-0-3 in his final 23 decisions, with a 2.58 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. Then, if you were a Habs backer, you could point out that Jaroslav Halak had a nearly identical save percentage and a better GAA for the whole season. Then, if you were a Caps fan, you could point out that over his final three games, Halak had an .892 save percentage against three teams that are currently out playing Parcheesi at the club.

Either way, I'm guessing Theodore sees this quote before Thursday night.

UPDATE: Theodore's response, via @cmasisak22: "Tomas who? Jagr? Oh, Plekanec. OK. I thought you meant Jagr....No, I'm not [Miller or Brodeur]. They are two of the best goalies in the league....I'm just lucky to be part of a good team.""

More fuel for the "fire"..... I hope the Caps light up the Habs and show them why they are a number 8 seed! Jose Theodore has been an exemplary player and a fine ambassador for the NHL. The personal grief he went through this year and to continue to help this team is just unbelieveable. No matter what happens, Jose is tops in my book! Take that you French speaking muts!!!

NOTHING in the regular season means anything anymore. Theo is 0-0 (no OTL slot in the postseason) with a 0.00 GAA, a .0 save pctg. and 0 GP. Same with Halak.

Playoffs are a different kind of monster.

I am sure he will see this quote, but if he needs to get pumped anymore than he already is, then he isn't ready. Thursday. We need you.

Let's see a shut-down of the Canadiens on Thursday, particularly Plekanec. Give me reason to laugh at them silly displaced Frenchies. =P

Thing is, the Canadiens and Montreal know about Theodore. He melted down when he was there (as a lot of goalies do) so they've got that image of him.

Not to say that things aren't different now, but that's just the mental image they've got of him up there.

What an idiot. Have fun getting swept, Montreal.

At least you'll already be in Montreal after Game 4 - so you'll know where the good golf courses are.....

Turtle neck wearing, ****.

Montreal - with a better regular season record - was swept by Boston last year.

Plekanec can slight Theo all he wants from his golf cart in about a week and a half...or whatever they do in the off-season in Czech Republic

By the way,LeftCoastCapsFan, José Théodore is a Frenchie so if you don't know your players, don't post

Yeah, Theo is no Miller or Brodeur but seriously, way to fire up Theo even more than he is already... like he even needed extra motivation. Amazing how some players make bold statements like this. I mean, what's the point of making that statement? Are you going to gain anything? Try to intimidate him? What an idiot. Geez... there have been many players this year that decided to take a shot at one of our players or our entire team. Guess they're just jealous. If you talk like that, Plekanec, I sure hope that you are able to back it up. If not... LOL!

He obviously hasnt watch theodore play this year and he lead this team to the best record in hockey 20-0-3 how does that compare to any of his goalies last 23 games. time to lay down the gaunlet and make waste of the Canadiens

@skinfannomore

You realize that Jose Theodore was born and raised in Montreal, right? So he himself is a 'French speaking mutt' too?

ALSO... Plekanec is not from Montreal... He's Czech...

So why don't you come suck my french speaking penis?

"Tomas who? Jagr? Oh, Plekanec. OK. I thought you meant Jagr....No, I'm not [Miller or Brodeur]. They are two of the best goalies in the league....I'm just lucky to be part of a good team."

It's why we love Theo.

Translate this into French: "You suck Plekanec and nobody gives a flying F*** what you think. I saw your stellar goaltender in the final home game vs. that amazing Toronto team and he was terrible. In fact, your team acted like the game didn't matter. Maybe concentrate on your team's awful 5 on 5 more and worry less about firing up a tema that is already ready for blood! Merci!

poetic justice! Plekanec gets the winner in OT! Quebec native french speaking Theodore will be seeing that one all the way until he's pulled for Varlamov like last year. Plekanec was only saying what everyone including Theodore knows; that any team would rather face Theodore in nets than Miller or Brodeur. Based on the comments above it's clear that DC fans should stick to the Skins and forget about hockey! Go habs Go!!
