Vice President Biden at Game 7

Joe Biden, far left, visits with Steve Case, Gary Bettman and David Gregory.
Tom Poti and I were among the people standing in a back hallway of Verizon Center when Vice President Joe Biden and his Secret Service detail cruised through right before Game 7 began. Poti -- the injured defenseman with the gruesome eye injury -- was sent into the family lounge. I was sent into a stairwell. Biden cruised by.
Yup, this game was a big, er, deal. During the second intermission, Biden visited in owner Ted Leonsis's suite with, among others, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman (who was chowing down on the party snacks), Meet the Press Host David Gregory (wearing Ovechkin), Nationals owner Mark Lerner (in a blank Caps jersey) and Steve Case.
Nearby, in the regular seats, was George Will. Pat Sajak was in his normal seat. Redskins Chris Cooley and Mike Sellers showed up. So did Maryland's Greivis Vasquez. Caps legends like Peter Bondra and Rod Langway were in the lower bowl.
Redskins GM Bruce Allen was sitting on the glass; "Very few things in sports compare to a game 7 in the NHL playoffs," Allen said. "I love it."
I asked if he had been pounding on the glass. "Not yet," he said. "I will if it's appropriate."

Choke job of epic proportions. I'm waiting for the conspiracy theorists to blame everyone from Bettman to G. Gordon Liddy on this one.

By the way, Brashear was right. The better TEAM did win tonight. He knew something.

Langway was a real defenseman. Tough, gritty and played a rock solid game. Now we have frail, clumsy and stupid Mike Green. I bet Langway was disgusted watching that lousy defensive effort.
The best thing Mike Green did for us yesterday was getting Brashear a ticket to the game.
OFFENSE WINS GAMES, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS. Mike Green is the most overrated player in the NHL and a sorry excuse for a defenseman. How a lousy defenseman is a Norris trophy nominee is beyond my comprehension. Green's dumb penalty in the offensive zone and weak defense in our own end cost us the game. I wish Boudreau could get over his Mike Green man-crush and see him for the terrible defenseman he his.

Good that George Allen knows that there are appropriate times to pound the glass. I hate seeing moron fans that pound it just because the puck is close to them.

Looks like we have some Republicans on the boards. Don't you guys have some immigrants to beat up on? Try border patrol on the north. Keep them pesky Canadiens from coming over.

I am sure Obama picked the Caps to win it all. The Obama Curse (on so many levels) rears its ugly head.
And, what team is ever proud of having Pat Sajak as a fan??????
Hey Caps, grab a seat at home tonight, polish your golf clubs, and watch how playoff hockey is played. Pens in 6 games.
