Wizards store moves away from "Bullets"

Back when the Wizards were in the process of purging Gilbert Arenas from public spaces in Verizon Center, I pointed out that the online store linked from the team's Web site still was leading with an image of a model in a "Bullets" tee shirt. I suggested this was hypocritical.

Well, the image seems to have disappeared, huh? Check this out.

Meantime, the team store's jersey selection currently includes Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison and Nick Young. That's it. No Gilbert Arenas, even though he's on the team and Jamison and Butler technically aren't.

That online store is run by a third-party vendor; the official NBA store site, though, also offers Jamison and Butler Wizards jerseys but nothing Arenas. And it still won't allow you to make a customized "Arenas" shirt. You can, however, get Mike Miller, Randy Foye and JaVale McGee jerseys over there.

Seriously, though, Dan. Pointing this out just makes me think whoever is in charge is lamer than ever. Who is responsible for this move? Who actually said, "Photoshop a different shirt onto this model." I understand that they're ultra-sensitive about the image of the team right now, but who are they trying to fool? I ONLY go to the NBA team store for Bullets gear, as the Wiz colors and logo are embarassingly lame. Themes such as "Pure Energy" are gradeschool and contrived. Hopefully Leonsis brings in better PR and marketing people.

I would be ok with the Wizards and Mystics nicknames if they had upgraded logo and jersey designs and a color scheme change of red, white and blue with stars and stripes. I would make the new designs very similar to the old Bullets gear of the 70's,80's and 90's.
I would also incorporate the old "reaching hands" Bullets logo into the new unis. The marketing dept should tie in the Wizards/Mystics name into DC culture such as the political Wizardry of the political elite and magic of Capitol Hill as well as the Navy battleships named the USS Mystic.
I think the Wiz/Caps/Mystics logos and unis should all look similar and marketed as one brand. That would be good for Business. Why not make the 77/78 Bullets jersey a alternate throwback. Also bring back the mascot Hoops and the little Daschhound that would stroll around the court during timeouts.

You're proud of your role in getting the only decent piece of memoribilia removed from the team store? Psh, hogwash

i sincerely hope that when (not if, but when) leonsis finally owns the wizards, the color scheme will change. maybe even an updated logo, if that's not too much to ask?!
