A few questions and answers about the Nats' silver Elvis wig.
Q: Why doesn't Livan Hernandez ever wear it?
A: As Thomas Boswell noted in a recent chat, it's apparently too small
big for his head. (Though Bill Ladson wrote that he did, indeed, wear it during the recent road trip.) Regardless, you can tell when Livan is awarded the wig, because it sits in his locker, unused. See above. Also, this is one of many career nadirs: scanning post-game MASN interviews in an attempt to see a silver Elvis wig sitting unused in a baseball player's locker.
Q: How does the wig feel on the head?
A: "It's kind of tight, it kind of itches a little bit," Scott Olsen told MASN's Debbi Taylor. "But I'll take it, I'll definitely take it."
That sounds like it has the potential to become disgusting. Which I guess is a good thing.
Q: What's the next step for the wig phenomenon?
A: Obviously, fans need to start wearing them to games. Nationals Inquisition has virtually ordered fans to do so during this series with Atlanta, but the results are unclear thus far. You can buy black Elvis wigs from Pinto Novelty for $19.99, but they really ought to be silver. Can't some local company step up and hand out a thousand or so free Elvis wigs? Please?
Q: What do players call it?
A: The Silver Fox, apparently.
