Strasburg earns impressive MASN ratings

MASN showed Stephen Strasburg's Monday night Syracuse start live. It was the first live Strasburg (minor-league) broadcast in the D.C. market this season. It was the only live and local pro sports broadcast in the D.C. market. It was going against the NHL and NBA playoffs. And people watched.

The game earned a peak household rating of 0.9 in the D.C. market, good for more than 21,000 households. That (peak) number is considerably better than the Nats averaged on MASN and MASN2 last season. This for a Syracuse Chiefs game, mind you, against a group of Mud Hens. I know there are a lot of Midwestern expats in D.C., but I don't think many of them are from Toledo.

The entire game averaged a 0.5, just slightly lower than the Nats' 0.6 average from a year ago. More at

In other Strasburg news, here's a one-of-a-kind Strasburg baseball card whose auction price exceeds $10,000. The Syracuse newspaper's A1 Strasburg page is for sale for $10. And here's a new Strasburg tee, via twoeightnine Design.

"It was the first live Strasburg broadcast in the D.C. market this season."

Not true. They showed his first exhibition start in Florida live on MASN. Tuesday March 9th. You could look it up.

When I was much younger, my life stopped every time I got the opportunity to watch Jim Palmer pitch...I loved the way he threw a ball.

I saw SS last night for the first time...I hope that young man pitches until he is 40...he is fun to watch.
