Charles Mann calls out Albert Haynesworth

(1992 photo by Joel Richardson - TWP)

With just two more days before Albert Haynesworth shows up for mandatory Skins practice, we're sort of running out of ex-Redskins to quote on the subject. Luckily, the fine folks at ESPN 980 thought of one untapped source: Charles Mann. Does he think Albert Haynesworth should have been around more this offseason? Why, sure he does.

"Man, lemme tell you this, for a million dollars I would have done all those things, not a hundred million," Mann told Kevin Sheehan and Thom Loverro last week. "And I've sat with Albert and his wife and his mother at an event in the community. I just don't think he realizes. I'm looking at athletic events, I'm looking at the way these athletes handle different situations, and I look, and I say gosh..lee.

"I mean, you go through it, you're young, and you think this is the way it's supposed to be and this is just regular life, and they have no clue as to the opportunity that they'r'e in the midst of. I'd crawl on the ground backwards for a hundred million dollars.

"I mean, just do the work. He looks more like a nose tackle, and a 3-4's gonna be great for him. You know why a 3-4 would be great? Because all he'll have to do is what he did last year, and that's just fall on the ground, pile it up a little bit and the linebackers roll past you and make the plays, He doesn't even have to make a play in the 3-4."

The next question was whether the NFL needs to work out some better offseason system, so that every June isn't consumed with stories of who's going to voluntary camp and who isn't. Mann demurred.

"My success is based on the team's," he said. "If the team goes to the playoffs and does well and ultimately gets to the Super Bowl, then guess what, there'll be a lot of All Pros on that team, there'll be a lot of accolades for the individuals. Everything happens if you do well as a team. And so if I'm out there slaving and working my butt off, and Albert is sitting at home cooling it or complaining or whatever, me as a teammate of his is gonna go handle this situation. I don't need Coach Shanahan or anybody else or the league to do anything they need to do. We've got to get to the bottom of this. Is it about winning, or is it about you being comfortable or uncomfortable?"

So, does Mann think Haynesworth shows up this week in shape?

"HECK no," he said. "Heck no. Did he show up last year in shape for the league, for the season? I mean, c'mon now."

And does he think Haynesworth will be traded before the season?

"You know what, Mike Shanahan's a smart guy, and he's won some Super Bowls," Mann said. "Just saying that, the next breath would be absolutely. He's just trying to get the right number."

Yikes...Albert has a wife? I guess not for long after he impregnated that stripper. Nice fella Albert is. Hope he didn't stomp on her head when she asked for support.

I'm I the only one that thinks nothing has changed and we're heading for 4-12 again?

SAME OLD STORY-BOYCOTT $NYDER!

Haynesworth is a left over from the previous regime, Shanahan isn't to blame for this situation. No more than Ted Leonsis is responsible for the Gilbert Arenas situation with the Wizards.

But both have to be dealt with and the dollars do impact what the potential solutions are going to be.

Blame Cerrato and Snyder for reaching for the moon in signing a DT in the thought a DT was going to salvage a team without a quarterback, a weak OL and aging skill players.

Blame Pollin for thinking that Arenas was a leader who would deliver a championship.

All the Fat Albert apologists need to read what Mann said. And then they need to shut up.

Someone needs to ask Mann about this...

At last, someone who wants Haynesworth gone nearly as much as I do.

While Haynesworth may be the curse of the Old Regime, Allen and Shanahan will soon have to take ownership if they keep holding out for more than a 2012 seventh-round pick.

100% agree.

If some of you are too young to remember watching Charles play, he is the epitome of the word "class." Great pic up top by the way with Art.

While he might not be in the HOF, he was one of the most respected DE's of his day.

I have a crazy story about Charles...before the '91 SB I met him in Montgomery Mall. It was literally the week before and he was shopping there getting stuff he needed for the cold weather in Minnesota. Anyway, he was coming out of the bathroom and this lady trapped him literally at the door asking him for his autograph. I felt so bad for the guy...can't even go take a leak without anybody bothering him, lol!

He was all class then, and he still is.

Fat Al has a lot to learn....

Albert Haynesworth has a 7 year contract worth $100,000,000.00. That’s $14,285,714.29 per 16-game season. That’s $892,857.14 per game. At full capacity in Fedex Field (91,704 people,) that’s about $9.75 per fan per game.

That’s right, every fan in a seat is paying $9.75 per game to pay Albert Haynesworth.

The guy can’t even show up for practice, show up in football shape, or stop whining about 3-4 defenses.

Charles Mann is class personofied and Fat Albert is his polar opposite. The real tragedy for Fat Albert is the steadily increasing number of all-you-can-eat restaurants that have banned this P.O.S.

Snyder paid Haynesworth and is now watching Fat Albert eat the money. Why keep blaming Snyder and Cerrato? They made a mistake in trying to improve our Skins. Snyder lost the money, not us. Fat Slob Albert, is the person to blame, and only him. To dilute the blame is stupid. This lazy jerk pulled the same thing Deion Sanders pulled. Signed for big money and then showed their true colors. At least Bruce Smith tried to do a good job. Snyder spent his money to try to improve the team, and he will again, and the fans will be glad he did. I dislike Snyder, but I cant blame him for this mess we call Butterworth.
