D.C. sports make NBC standup routine
This is a new era in Washington sports, a new era of joy and harmony and playfulness and world dominance and/or domination.
But the old era is recent enough in memory to have been featured on the opening monologue of this week's episode of Last Comic Standing, the NBC reality show for struggling comics attempting to make it big. The contestant was Alycia Cooper from Temple Hills, who's been doing comedy for 10 years.
First, she was shown making a joke about wedding invitations. Then, she said this.
"I live in D.C., and for a sports fan, it's the worst place to live, because all of our teams suck. The basketball team sucks, the baseball team sucks, the football team sucks. I had two Washington Redskins tickets on my dashboard. Somebody busted my window and put two Wizards tickets beside 'em."
"What?" asked judge Natasha Leggero, who ended up voting no on Alycia.
"Two Wizards tickets beside them," explained Andy Kindler, another judge, who voted yes.
"The Washington Wizards," repeated the third judge, Greg Giraldo, who also voted yes.
Maybe you have to live here.
