Keith Law hasn't seen anything like Strasburg

"I haven't seen anything like this," is one of the more popular quotes about Stephen Strasburg. ESPN's Keith Law added his name to the "haven't seen anything like this" crew on Wednesday morning.

"I haven't seen anything else like this," he said on Mike and Mike and Mike and Mike, when asked if Strasburg was the best pitching prospect he's ever seen. "I mean, I think you're probably going back to Clemens, Gooden in the 1980s. We haven't seen anybody like this, with this kind of hype, with this kind of ability, come along in a very long time.

"I haven't seen anything like this, and I've been in the industry directly for eight or nine years now, and was covering it part-time before that. I can't think of anything like this guy, in terms of just raw ability or polish, just how ready he was the moment that he was drafted."

Law was also asked whether there's any chance Strasburg could live up to the hype his first start is generating -- a full house, an MLB Network audience, a ticket-buying frenzy and the like.

"Well, it's hard to imagine, given how much hype there's been around him, but I do think they've set him up to succeed," Law said. "They've got him starting at home, they've got him starting against the Pirates -- one of the weaker lineups in the National League.

"They have given him plenty of time to get ready in AA and AAA. He really dominated at both levels. So I think there's a good chance he comes out with a big debut start, racks up a ton of strikeouts, probably one goes five or six innings....I do think they've given him every chance to succeed in that first outing."

I haven't seen anything like this since:

Brien Taylor
Ben McDonald
Todd Van Poppel
Kerry Wood
Mark Prior
Kris Benson (ok, that's pushing it)

He's a pitcher, who hasn't done anything at the Major League level. He's being compared to Dwight Gooden (who didnt win 200 games) and Clemens (roids) and I'd consider that a high-end comparison.

I hope he comes up, wins 300 games, strikes out 20 in a single game, and takes the Nats to the World Series. I really do. But the reason you've "never seen anything like this" is because the media oversaturates every story and back in the day, there weren't ESPN cameras at every possible sporting event.

That is all....carry on....

20 strikeouts in a single game? Come on, if we want to talk bestcase scenario, let's talk about breaking the record, not matching it. Let's have him repeat his 23 Ks in the MLB.

How about 27 Strikeouts and a Perfect Game.

And when he arrives, he'll consume the Phillies with fireballs from his eyes, and bolts of lightning from his arse
