Rizzo: Nats "leaning towards" Harper

Whom will the Nats take in Monday's amateur draft? Bryce Harper, duh. GM Mike Rizzo finally came close to saying so publicly during Sunday's MASN broadcast, when sideline reporter Debbi Taylor asked him point blank if Harper was their guy.

"Well, he's towards the top of the list," Rizzo said. "We haven't made our final final decision yet, but we're leaning towards him. He's a terrific talent, and unless something changes between now and the draft, he's most likely our guy."

Alternatively: "Yes."

And not to quibble, but until this interview, leadership was saying that they had made up their minds, but that they just weren't saying publicly whom it was.

Stan Kasten, last week: "Mike Rizzo, our GM, has made his decision, and I think they feel pretty good about it. And because we don't need to until we have to make that decision, we're not gonna announce it until Monday night."

Rizzo, last week: "There's definitely been separation, the first pick from the field. So we feel real comfortable where we're at right now."

Rizzo, earlier Sunday: "We're going to keep the suspense until tomorrow night. It's just not fair to the other players that are possibilities, so we're going to keep that under wraps. It's not the biggest secret in the world, but we feel that until we make the pick, things change often up to the draft time."

Anyhow, just get LeBryce here already, so the Harpsburg Dynasty can begin.
