McNabb still second in NFL jersey sales

In the first month after he arrived in Washington, Donovan McNabb's Redskins jersey was the league's No. 2 seller on

We've now had three months for initial spikes of enthusiasm to level off, and in that three-month span, McNabb remains No. 2 in the league, according to the site. He's the only Redskins player in the top 25.

Interestingly, McNabb -- or maybe general optimism about life -- has helped the Redskins jump into the top 10 in overall team merchandise sales. For the year from April 1, 2009 through March 31, 2010, the Skins were the only NFC East team that didn't appear in the overall top 10, but from April 1 to June 30 of this year, the Skins have been sixth.

(The Cowboys were third, the Giants were fifth and the Eagles ninth. The Broncs -- helped by top individual seller Tim Tebow -- were first, and the Super Bowl champion Saints were second.)

The site doesn't give out specific player rankings past No. 25, but a spokeswoman told me that two other Redskins -- Chris Cooley and Brian Orakpo -- are in the top 100 in player sales.

Of the top 25 players, 13 are quarterbacks, and seven play in the NFC East.

Who are the 7 from the NFC East? McNabb, Romo, Eli are locks. My guesses: Vick, Demarcus Ware, DeSean Jackson, Marion Barber (?)

Probably some bum overhyped cowboy players I'm not thinking of. Please give us answers Dan so I dont have to google it myself

Just a little surprised Strasburg didn't make the top 25 . . .

It's probably the Hanesworth jersey bumping up the Skins. It'll be such a rarity in the future.

How much would they sell if they told people "bob marley" was on the logo? it is the skankiest color scheme in the league next to that mess in cleveland.

Any man over the age of 14 that wears a team jersey is a LOSER.

Posted by: dbunkr | July 8, 2010 8:27 AM | Report abuse

and that is what is most important - winning the jersey sales race...

Bandwagon jumpers make create more jersey sales.... if that is what is driving the skins still, then we are all boned. We will be the offseason champs every year, and never win $^*%.

Snyder bojkot

All this means nothing. Next summer I predict you'll be able to pick up these number 5 jerseys at garage sales for cheap. Yes, I believe McNaab will be a bust. He'll probably get hurt in preseason.

Gripping story. Must be a slow news day.

lol...come on dbunkr those words are a little too harsh. They're (jersey wearers) just showing support for their team. It's the obnoxious drunks who show up for the games and think they have a right to spoil the game/environment; they're the real problem. An individual should be able to wear what he wants without being judged by others. Let's try not to be so judgmental.

Agree with dbunkr. Only I'd give a kid til 24 to grow up.

You know what? it sounds to me like you are mad cause you cant afford a jersey, which if is the case theres no shame in that just dont bust other peoples ballls for wearing them. I have 9 yes NINE jerseys and 6 of the are authentic and I dont go around saying fans who DONT wear jerseys are adolescent punks so get over your 14 year old self (dbunkr) bro.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a team jersey. Get rid of the stupid logic that says that anyone over the age of 14 wearing a jersey is a loser.

Man, Skins fans are suckers. Little Danny Snyder owns a money-printing machine. Every year he signs some free agent and you all line up to hand Danny some cash for a new jersey. Then that free agent plays like crap and the Skins suck again.

Next year will you put your McNabb jersey with your Archuleta jersey? Or your Haynesworth?

If you keep your money in your pocket, maybe Danny would realize that the Skins need to build for the future through the draft. But here they are again, trading away the future for a present that is a complete mirage. McNabb doesn't make this team a playoff contender. Hell, he'll be injured and watching from the sidelines by November.

For the last 5 years, McNabb has missed an average of 3 games per season. And he wasn't playing behind our offensive line. I know what you're thinking: but we have two new tackles! The OL is fine!

Nonsense. We have a bunch of players who are ill-suited to playing this offense. Dockery? Mike Williams? Raybach? In the ZBS? Huh? And both of our tackles are serious question marks -- one because he's a rookie and the other for his injury history. McNabb won't last long.

At the end of this latest disappointment season, all you'll have to show for it is the stupid jersey you bought.

Why not buy a Charles Mann or Art Monk or Riggins or Butz jersey? Then at least you look like an intelligent Skins fan rather than a bandwagon loser who got suckered by little Danny.

Id much rather see a fourth Superbowl trophy, which hopefully is the real goal with this organization. I wasnt pleased with trading a 2 and 3 pick for an aging McNabb. He will sell jerseys because what he HAS done. But WILL he be a key component to some serious runs at the Superbowl for the next five years? That's all that matters to me.
