Washington Kastles title bling
When Ted Leonsis held that news conference to announce how he was buying the Wizards, he recognized Kastles owner (and Wizards fan) Mark Ein as the most recent owner to bring a championship to D.C. Now, Ein has the bling to prove it.
Before Wednesday's Venus Williams-led win in downtown D.C., I got a chance to check out Ein's championship ring. The rings are silver with platinum, with the players' names and RTL banner on one side (RTL stands for "Refuse to Lose," as if you didn't know) and the Kastles' crest logo and the World Team Tennis banner on the other.
Only eight rings were made: for Ein, and for Serena Williams, Leander Paes, Rennae Stubbs, Scott Oudesma, Olga Puchkova, Nadia Petrova and Coach Murphy Jensen. So if one of these turns up on eBay within the next decade, you'll know the suspects.
On the other hand, maybe there will be a 2010 ring added to the jewelry box. "The Washington Kastles are the defending champions, and they should repeat this year," World Team Tennis co-founder Billie Jean King told Ivan Carter on Wednesday. "You look on paper, they should repeat."
Hey, like the slogan says, Do it again in 2010. Heh.
