Brandon Banks does the John Wall Dance

John Wall announced on Twitter Friday evening that he was going to the Redskins game, presumably to watch his fellow Raleigh native Brandon Banks. And when the undrafted rookie took a punt return around the edge and then sped 77 yards for a touchdown, Wall saluted Banks.

"My boy @bbanks16 just scored that touchdown!!!" Wall wrote.

Banks also acknowledged Wall, but in a slightly more enthusiastic manner. He celebrated his first (scrimmagey) NFL touchdown by doing Wall's signature dance in the end zone. (Video here.) Now, I know many of you think this is silly, immature, embarrassing, and so on, but I'm always a sucker for D.C. athletes spreading the love across team barriers, so I approve.

Something else I approve of: having a punt returner whose signature move is not "run laterally, then fall down." Last season, Antwaan Randle El recorded 102 punt-return yards. Like, in the whole year. In one preseason game, Banks finished with 97 punt-return yards. Even the dance-averse would likely say that if he's going to produce like that, the kid can dance as much as he wants.

(Incidentally, it turns out that both Banks and Wall came out of Garner High, near Raleigh. Wall played there for two years, before moving into the city of Raleigh, when he switched schools and repeated his sophomore year. Banks graduated from Garner, where he was also a sprinter and national track champion.)

(Like Wall, by the way, Banks frequently talks about Raleigh on Twitter. "Shout to raleigh I miss and can't wait to get back to the city!!" for example. This is a very Wallish thing to write.)

Hey, as long as they're winning, they can do the Charlston in the endzone for all I care.

Unless he shows some major deficiencies before camp ends, we have GOT to find a spot to Brandon Banks to make this team!!!

Loved the dance. Having fun is fun.

Anthony Armstrong ought to think about a dance move, because he sure had trouble completing the spike. Had to be the worst spike I have ever seen, bar none.

Anthony Armstrong: Worst spike ever.

I know the NFL doesn't condone "excessive celebration", but it was nice to see a Redskin busting a few moves, even if it wasn't quite up to the Fun Bunch or the Smurfs back in the '80's. Actually I think that was what caused the league to crack down. Party poopers!

If somebody catches Banks right this year, they might kill him - he's so small. I'll enjoy the ride in the meantime, though.

I wonder if the coaching staff can get him involved in the Off-playbook, too? He's not that much smaller than DeSean Jackson and he may be even faster.

Wow III, first off he will get cut, secondly, we beat the Bills Practice squad!!! had they not had that bogus holding call it is TD buffalo early. and they missed a wide open guy for the long ball against our starting D. this is going to get ugly when the Jets play here and force them to play starters for 1/3 of the game. you ain't seen nothing yet friends.

El is a very nice man but has no business playing the NFL.

Wall and Banks went to the same high school, kinda nice to see that dance.

I liked it. :)

As soon as he went into the John Wall, my immediate thought was how intensely Bog-centric this was.

Wait John Wall was at the game?!!

How come they never showed him??

These young WRs are gonna make it difficult to cut them. Banks made a big play. Armstrong caught a TD and has a history of returning kicks. Austin had some good kick returns as well. Probably only one of the three will make the team. Maybe another one makes the practice squad.

Kelly better get rolling soon, or he could end up on the street.

Football is enertainment if a kid right out of college or for that manner any professional football player wants to celebrate in the endzone big deal this is not corporate america its entertainment ,maybe those who are so against it have those feelings because they have 2 left feet ..Do your thing Banks..

IF they play their way onto the field and we need to make room for them on the roster after cutting Kelly, then we should cut the old guys and let these youngsters build it up together.

Galloway is 40 and has caught 40 passes over the last 2 seasons as a starter.

If someone proves worthy, JoeyG has got to go.

Great energy, loved the effort by all the players. Enjoyed that win over the weekend but now it's over. Time to focus on the RAVENS and believe me, that will be a different story. A much tougher story...

Hail!!

Hey Redskins nation, this kid has overcome alot more than his size, there has always been things stacked agaisnt him and he consistently over comes. That punt return will only be the first he will do it over and over again. And not only was John there watching him his Lil sister a star of her own National HS sprint champion and world Jr. Champion, Gabby Mayo Texas A&M, and he also was on the team at Garner with Chris Culliver S.Carolina, and him and Monterio Hardesty,Tenn./Cleveland Browns were HS rivals at 100m, all were members of Track Eastern.
