Jim Zorn's postgame Gatorade shower

The preseason means nothing. "Doesn't count," as Chris Cooley told Comcast SportsNet's Kelli Johnson.

Still. At the conclusion of a game that didn't count, the Ravens apparently dumped a bucket of liquid over Jim Zorn's head. That wasn't a coincidental dousing. View the before and after hair below.

Also, I think maybe we all remember the last fake punt Zorn was involved with at FedEx Field. Didn't end so well. This time, the fake punt and the game went in his favor. The Z-Man looked happy afterward, and players from both sides mentioned the Zorn angle on Twitter after the game.

LeRon McClain: Great game tonight!! We run the beltway!! JK.... S/O to Coach Zorn that one was really for you!! He is a great coach!!

Phillip Daniels: Gatorade shower and a fake punt in preseason. Wow but its all good....Cannot blame Zorn for the gatorade shower because he probably didn't know it was coming. If he celebrated after then that would be bad. Lol.

I'm not sure what the official etiquette on visiting-team-preseason-assistant-coach dousings, but I'm pretty sure this doesn't happen every week.

That fake punt cra-ap was ridiculous.

All the Deadskins could muster was 3 points, maybe they can schedule the Buffalo Bills again. Way to leave McNabb in the entire half so he couldn't put up points on Baltimore's 2nd team defense and get unnecessarily hit at the same time. Congrats to Zorn, still getting paid from Danny Boy and gets to work for a quality organization.

Thing is, if Zorn was running the show in DC, the Skins would have been beaten by 40. If Zorn had been running the show in B'more -- the Skins would have won.

What? No Hip Hip Hooray?

Gotta laugh looking at Zorn holding back his cheesing grin with the Gatorade dew, though. I mean, the guy is a real dork. He probably believes that this has something to do with him and vindication and support from his new team, blah blah blah, "tremendous" and "super-cool"...Whatever, Man.

What happened was actually good for the Redskins. They got their Hats handed to them. They better shore up that O Line, they better learn that D, and Kyle Shanahan can go back to understanding he's got something to prove.

PS - MAN, Campbell is getting a severe beat down in Oakland. And it's only the PREseason. He wont last the season. No Way. Look where it got him last time he kept sucking it up. Live and learn, Soupy. Live and learn.

He tried a fake punt last preseason too... or was it the first game of the season against the Giants?

Ha, this will be vindication for Zorn when he's the head coach, not some assistant. Give me a break.

I think the Zorn shower was more a in house joke about Jim's big "revenge win". It's funny but Zorn doesn't talk or act like he needs any revenge; he's been nothing but professional about the whole Redskin experience.

And Thinker, I don't think he's some kind of dork. He's different for sure and maybe got that rah rah college vibe about him but he seems to be working out fine for the Ravens doing the job that Danny supposedly hired him for - QB coach.

On the fake punt...the Ravens got a new long snapper so (as a poster on the Baltimore Sun site pointed out) it's possible they wanted to have him do the trick play in a non-game situation to see how he works out. So I wouldn't assume it's Zorn and the Ravens sticking it to DC. Besides, all preseason games are more about working your own stuff out and next to nothing about the other team.

Sorry I realize Zorn was hired as the OC not the QB coach. Also I do think Zorn will work out better with more focused responsibility rather than a big picture kind of guy. I don't think he would have been a great OC for the Redskins either.

OMG if that band of gypsies takes the field next week agaisnt the JETS it will be a train wreck. They got pimp slapped in every phase of the game and if Razor lip had called the fake punt and it worked and they had been the one's who almost destroyed McChicken then the fans would have been fired up just like last week when they beat the Spingarn Green Wave. They will get jacked when DeMarcus Ware gets ahold of "Lead Foot Williams".

The Ravens' team did the same thing -- gatorade bath -- to Cam Cameron after they beat the Dolphins (where Cameron was the coach). Do you guys get it? Now that Zorn is in Bmore, he's a member of the Ravens' family, so -- yeah -- this was a payback to Washington. Meanwhile, the Deadskins have a one-eyed, psycho-fascist as Head Coach this year...and unless Terrell Davis suits up, the team isn't winning a thing, 'cos one-eyed Mike is an overrated coach. Great job alienating Albert Haynesworth, though. Just goes to show: WHOEVER is charge of the Redskins, there will always be the funk in dysfunctional.

Nothing against Zorn. He is a good guy and good QB coach. In WAY over his head as a head coach, obviously.

Shanny knows what he is doing and is the boss with authority, like he should be. 52 MEN TOGETHER CAN'T LOSE! Unless the 53rd woMAN is a lazy, fatazz prima dona who is a cancer as a TEAMMATE. He has shown this over and over since he has been here. Shanny is right (so far) in keeping this cancer as far away from the team (and starters) as possible. I'm hoping for a trade in the next couple of weeks for another starter and high draft pick to another desperate, stupid team willing to take him.

I think the point a lot of you Ravens/Redskin-haters out there are blindly missing -- is the most important point of them all. If you look back and compare the 1st team against 1st team, you would see a Redskin team who not only went blow-for-blow with a "super Bowl contending team", but marched the ball down the infamous defense of the Ravens. If it wasn't for a fluke fake punt and a dropped pass by Davis, it would be a whole different ball game.

I take away that the Redskins this season will be a team that will hit you in the mouth on defense (see Landry's tattooing) and make big plays on offense.

well congrats you idiots may just win the preseason superbowl. just the mere factg that you give a gatorade bath to an assistant qb coach whose first string qb mustered a whopping 72 yards shows how dumb you guys are. i'm sure aolt of coaches would love to have 2 sb rings and be overrated like shanahan you assclown.

Good for Zorn. He left the field smiling. I'm not sure Danny Boy did.

seriosuly people, This is why I barely ever read these things. Do any of your jabronis realize this is pre-season. I look at the frst half in which the redskins played very well. aside from a fake punt that would have never been done in regular season Washington held the avens in check. But as I recall th redskin could not run but they passed all over the ravens 200 yards in the frist half, ravens better get that straight becasue there are a few QBs that can lite it up (BRADY, MANNING RIVERS, PALMER) So I would not worry about bating up the 2nd and 3rd teams worry about the AFC oh and by the way Steelers looked pretty good last night. Ravens are the 4 or 5th best team in the AFC......

Do read the Baltimore Sun. It does not talk about Washington Redskin defense, but great Raven slopiness. It is pre-game all the way around.

As for Zorn, he deserved his moment. He is a really nice guy, and he might have been a good offensive coordintor with the right head coach. But it was Snyder who took a good quarterback coach and made him head coach without any coordinating experience and before a head coach was named and could select his own man--and fired the man who is Super Bowl defensive coach. And it is Snyder who hires old injury-prone players and has a backup like Grossman.

Note to Dan Snyder--You need to shut up. If you want to blame someone blame yourself. Shut Up. Next time you want to say I did not call a fake punt, say I hired Vinny Cerrato for 10 years. Say I hired Jim Zorn. I signed Albert Haynesworth. Shut UP. Jim Zorn is not a head coach. But he has more class in his little finger then you will ever have. He was a good high school, college and NFL player. You were a putz. He is a good NFL assistant coach and you have ruined the Washington Redskins. The Ravens coaching staff and players hung a big loss on your team on its way to the super bowl. You need an offensive line. You need to block the defense. For 11 years you have tried to block seven with two. It does not work. Everyone in the NFL saw what happened last night. Donovan will be playing for Arizona if you do not get an offensive line. Casey Rabach is not an NFL center. None of the the linemen that Vinny brought in will play in the league this year. The Ravens embarrassed you. Open your mouth again and you will be embarrassed again. SHUT UP. Way to go Baltimore.

New Coach. New QB. Same owner. Same results.

The Redskins will be seeing the other team giving about gatorade baths this season. They stink. As long as Dan "I run this team like its fantasy football" Snyder is owner, they will not win consistently.

As for Haynesworthless, I know the Skins have a bunch of money tied up in him, but they should just pull a Keyshawn Johnson and tell him to just stay home and collect his check. His terrible attitude is contagious.

Big day for Zorn. To be able to walk back into the den of your incompetence, as a position coach, and watch your new team beat your old team in a preseason game which didn't matter and that everyone will forget happened within the next three weeks, well, that's gotta be the highlight of his career (well, next to reviving Jason Campbell's career. Oh, wait...)

Posted by: grimesman | August 22, 2010 1:30 PM | Report abuse

There are still plenty of skeletons in Danny Snyder's closet. I am sure as long as he is in the owner of the Redskins, there will be plenty of this type of "Get Even" moments by former employees and players. Just hope that most fans are young enough to out-live this miserable reign of Daniel Snyder to see another owner or another football championship for the Redskins.

In all honesty, Snyder was the best thing that ever happened to Zorn. He gave him the opportunity of his lifetime. Not to mention the biggest paydays he will ever have. So I'm not crying any tears for Zorn.......

Baltimore really wanted this game. WOW! Trust and believe if this was a regular season game, the score would be way different. Skins still need work, but look good. It it was a real game, we would have put the ball in the end zone when we were down there. If this was a real game, Albert would be in there w/ the starters. There is no way he does not play w/ the 1st team. If you think so, watch Danny tell Mikey that he is paying too much money for Albert not to be. Preseason is one thing, but regular is for the marbles! If it was a real game, McNabb would have thrown for 300 plus yards. He was picking their secondary apart. And had not been for some dropped passes, we would have opened up the run game. So I am not impressed if the Skins had won, it means zip. It is an evaluation! Too bad B'more took way too much out of it. And even last week, I could care less about the Buffalo game. It's an evaluation.
