D.C. sports media karaoke approaches

Amazingly, it's been three years since my last experience with D.C. sports media members doing passable karaoke. You can read the report here. We were younger then, and had fewer children, and our hearts were touched with fire, and our heads were just touched. Michael Jenkins rapped. Mike Wise ripped his shirt off. Lindsay Czarniak did something or other in a floppy hat. And I got to take funny photos and wander home in a daze.

Well, Charityoke approaches again, and this is the event in its maturity, starring actual D.C. athletes, apparently. Wise's latest charity endeavor is Wednesday at the D.C. Improv, with the doors opening at 6:30 and the public humiliation beginning at 8. The promised performers include a posse of Redskins, with Chris Wilson singing with a front man of Lorenzo Alexander, security by Kedric Golston and possibly guitar accompaniment by Hunter Smith.

But the media members are the real stars here, and so we should be treated to performances by Lindsay Czarniak, Kelli Johnson, Michael Jenkins, Russ Thaler, Luke Russert, Britt McHenry, a rapping Dave Feldman, Brittany Morehouse, Kevin Ewoldt, Holden Kushner, and, of course, Mike Wise. The judges will include Chris Johnson, Liz Drabick, Doc Walker and Dan Hellie. I'll be offering autographs for $0.75. A full 100 percent of the proceeds goes to charity, in this case the Everybody Wins literacy and mentoring program and Billy Mills's Running Strong for American Indian Youth. It'll be weird, if nothing else.

It costs $20 in advance, or $25 the day of. More information here.

I wanted to thank Dan for his pre-event support and the people involved in putting this together in advance.

It's the one of the few nights of the year on the DC sports calendar we get together as one -- irrespective of media outlet -- for a common cause: our own egos.

Seriously, two good charities. I know the great Barno can't make it, but the Bog regulars in the DMV area that show up, well, it would mean a lot.
