Caps grow mustaches, again
The leaders of that effort -- Brendan Morrison and Shaone Morrisonn -- are both gone, part of the offseason Mo purge. But others have stepped into that breach and agreed to grow facial hair. Six others, in fact. The six Caps -- Jason Chimera, Karl Alzner, John Carlson, Matt Hendricks, John Erskine and Jeff Schultz -- plus a few other Caps employees have already raised more than $13,500 this month, which makes them the third-highest netting group in America, and tops among the half-dozen or so participating NHL teams. Donate to the effort here. Now here are some quotes, strung together to make it appear like dialog. It started with me asking them what they'd look like.
"Probably pretty stupid," Carlson said.
"Very creepy," Chimera said. "But it's a good creepy."
"I don't know," Hendricks said. "Not cute. Probably a little ugly. But that's all right; I guess it goes with my game."
"I asked people on Twitter what I should do. It was either '80s rock star or the handlebars," said Erskine, whose effort is already paying off.
"Some guys cheated on their staches," Chimera said. "I'm not gonna name names, but some guys cheated."
"Erskine cheated a little bit," Alzner said. "I started right from scratch, but he started a little bit ahead of me, so I have to do some catching up."
"I had like a two-day head start, and the only reason was because I forgot to shave," Erskine said. "This is not a competition, it's just something fun, to raise money for a good cause."
"I'm not gonna be able to grow much, but I'll try my best for a good cause," Carlson said.
"I've never been a mustache guy," Alzner said. "My mustache is pretty thin. The beard is good, the mustache is just so-so."
"He comes in pretty thick," Chimera said. "It's gonna be hard to beat. Maybe I'll dye mine."
"We'll see," Alzner said. "I'll do my best."
Again, here's their page.
