Check out this Nats hat

By Dan Steinberg

Here's a Nats hat for sale on the team's Web site. It's described as the "Washington Nationals Authentic 2011 Alternate 2 Performance 59FIFTY On-Field Cap."

I think it looks nice, all in all. Some cynics are arguing it looks sort of like this hat. Others are pointing to this hat. Yet others are mentioning this hat. I'm no expert. But you'll hear that talk. Expect it.

NOTE: After I thought about this for more than 10 seconds and received comments on Twitter, I updated the post and the photos below.

NOTE2: The above hat, which is no longer available on the team's site, is described with the same "Alternate 2" language as this hat with the interlocking stars-and-stripes D.C. logo.

Curly W's are often hard to distinguish between curly (?) P's. Especially when one is red with white trim and the other is white with red trim.

Here's an idea: the uniforms should be as ugly as their play from the prior season. Then once the team plays well they can look good on the field too. Plus the hideous uniforms (think 80's Astros) may distract opponents and help them make as many errors as we do on the field.

I had a comment all typed up about the more direct (read: near identical) resemblance to a Braves hat, but then you went and updated the post to include one.

Well, half the teams in baseball have a general red, white, and blue color scheme. There's only so many ways you can recombine them.

"Alternate 2" might mean a Sunday cap or even just patriotic days. Most likely replacing this cap (also Alternate 2 with a red bill), which is a good thing...

I think it's pretty sharp - looking forward to the uniform unveiling tomorrow.

I like them well enough to wear one as soon as they have free hat day.

I'm suddenly less excited for the uniform reveal date.

That is a nice improvement over the red jersey from last year. Can't wait to see the rest.
