Clinton Portis's Nats hat

By Dan Steinberg

(By Matt Terl - Redskins Blog)

Thursday Clinton Portis wore a Phillies hat. This got some attention, with the Redskins set to face the Eagles and all. A Yahoo! blog item on the incident got well more than 1,000 comments.

So Friday, Clinton Portis wore a Nats hat, which the team sent to him. Good marketing work, Nats people.

"A toast to all the douchebags, a toast to the [bleep]-holes and everybody else that I know: I love the Nationals," Portis said, quoting Kanye West. "As soon as they tried to make it a big story about my Phillies cap, I got a Nationals [hat] -- Washington. I'm a Washington Redskin."

Portis said Brian Orakpo alerted him to the fact that this was a big deal, and he thanked the Pro Bowler for the heads-up.

"I didn't even know," Portis told him. "I'm glad you brought it to my attention that they threw me under the bus for wearing a Philly hat."

He said he wears a host of hats featuring teams from different cities, but Portis said there was a big difference between wearing a Phillies hat and wearing an Eagles hat.

"You'll never see me with green on," he said.

All the reporting for this item was provided by Rick Maese, and there's much more at the Skins Blog. Now we can move on to more important matters, like quarterbacks and race.
