Tanya Snyder: Redskins owner "has better people around him now"

By Dan Steinberg

Daniel Snyder has had a noticeably increased public presence in recent months, and the same could be said of his wife. Tanya Snyder has appeared in an ad for NFL apparel, traveled to Indianapolis for an NFL Play 60 event, spoken at length with the New York Times, and spearheaded the promotion of Saturday's Fit For You 5K at National Harbor.

To help promote the latter event, she went on TBD's Sports Talk with Julie Parker and Alex Parker this week, and after they talked about the Play 60 and apparel stuff, they started talking football. Alex Parker, for example, asked Tanya Snyder about her husband's increased media presence.

"I think he has better people around him now," she said. "I think he finally has gotten to the point where he does have a general manager, he has really good marketing people and I think he's grown and he's evolved and he's very comfortable where he is. And I think he knows he's got the right group of people around. It feels like a new beginning now. We're just really happy to be where we are."

She said she and her husband will see from two to eight movies on weekends. She said Dan Snyder doesn't have a BlackBerry and prefers texting. She said it's hard to shop for his upcoming birthday because "the only thing Dan Snyder really wants for his birthday is -- listen up., D.C. -- a Super Bowl. I mean, that's all he wants. That's all he wants."

And she was asked about the Snyder family's reaction to D.C.'s crazed Redskins obsession.

"We celebrate the victories just like everybody, and the losses are devastating," she said. "I mean, very devastating, just like everybody else. He listens, he cares, and he wants more than anything just to get it fixed. And mainly now, he feels very confident that he has really good people in place. So I think he believes in them and he wants them to do their jobs and get it right."

Also, the hosts joked with Tanya Snyder about wearing clothing with the Cowboys star. Apparently, you don't joke about that.

"Dan Snyder will rip a little star off PJs," she said. "We have to be very careful with that type of thing. I mean, I even tried to sell him on with young kids, night night stars [as decorations] and all that. No stars."

...a.k.a. he is not Jerry Jones...

" he has really good marketing people"

...can't argue this point. Good time for the Snyders to point out that they're doing things that Jerry Jones never would.

My guess is it is a phase. When Shanny fails or leaves after being burned out, he'll go back to his traditional way of doing business. At the very best it is a ten month span in the right direction to atone for the last ten years of frustration. Larry Michael is still the mouthpiece of the organization, and until that changes, they've still got work to do.

that quote about better people being around him, makes it sound like he's still involved in running the details of the team, and the marketing crew is trying to make him likeable.

The WAshington and Dallas market could be marketed by an idiot and still make a fortune.
Come to think of it,Danny has proven my point.

Danny hasn't grown he was justed so humiliated last season by everyone from fans, to the NFL, to the broadcasters on Monday Night. He wanted out of the light !!

"he has really good marketing people"

See, if she's saying it, that's how Dan talks about it around her. First a GM, then marketing. Let's face it, if I had to pick Danny or JJ as my GM...

And 2-8 movies a weekend? Ain't that a clever date/avoidance move there? 16 of your 48 hours together away from work (pretending the weekend is business free) are watching TV? Then four to five hours for the game... A real people person, that DS.

Good interview. If Dan Snyder can find his soulmate so can I. Hail!!

"He has really good marketing people."

TRANSLATION: Expect $12 "Redskin beer" and $10 "Hog Dogs."

"Right people around him"

QUESTION: These the same people who thought it wise to throw out a 2nd round draft pick for an aged, injury-prone QB?

I'm sure Tanya Snyder is a wonderful person, and I commend her for the hard work she's put into fighting breast cancer. But lord, it's been 10 freakin long years on Dan's watch. My patience (what's left of it) has worn thin.

I dont know why they published this fluff piece. She obvioulsly doesnt know what she is talking about. If anything things are more of the same.

Snyder has gone from lettign someone with no success as general manager(Cerrato) to someone who has no business being a general manager (Shanahan). Allen has the title but he is a salary cap guy. Shanahan and his ego are running the show. Cerrato and Snyder were famous for wasting money and draft picks on big named players. How has that changed? Hopefully when this Shanallen experiment ends we will finally get a real GM who actually evaluates players and worries about other things than bringing back yellow pants.

The new marketing people at least know enought to put her out in front of the media instead of Danny. She is easy on the eyes. Danny, not so much.

She talks about Dan like he's her teenage son.

I see these types of comments all the time on the Post's blogs. Never mind the fact that the price of beer/hot dogs/tickets etc is on par with many other NFL teams.

Of course she's an airhead, but to be a billionaires wife, how bright do you really have to be? The Shanahan disaster is going to be long, and torturous, and will end in complete and total failure. Once Shanahan finishes wasting the draft picks it will take about 15 years for the Dead Skins to get close to back on track (hopefully Snyder will be bought out by then). However long Shanahan's contract is, will be about how long he stays -- he's the ultimate buffer for Snyder. Snyder's hope is that folks will transfer the hatred they have for him onto Shanahan (and he's right when it comes to me). That way, when things get so bad that no one can stand it, Snyder can be the hero by riding in and firing Shanny. It's a great plan. Also folks, wake up -- does anyone really think that a billionaire REALLY gives a crap who wins a stupid football game? Really? When the world is yours LITERALLY? Y'all can't be that dumb.
