McNabb booed at Lakers game

By Dan Steinberg

I was not at the Lakers-Wizards game on Tuesday. A lot of Internet users were, though, so I'm going to crowd-source their reactions to Donovan McNabb's appearance on the big screen. There's some slight difference of opinion on exactly what happened next, but no one suggested McNabb was greeted with a standing ovation, anyhow. Not only is the honeymoon over; they're already squabbling over who left the milk out on the kitchen counter overnight.

Gene Wang: Mike Sellers, Donovan McNabb booed at Verizon Center. No love for the Skins at all.

Sam Chamberlain: McNabb and Mike Sellers were just shown on the big screen. A stunning amount of boos.

Michael Lee: DC folks are pretty bitter with so many lousy teams. Fans have booed Redskins Donovan McNabb, Mike Sellers & DeAngelo Hall 2night.

Dan Hellie: They just showed Mcnabb on jumbotron at wiz-lakers game. Mixture of boos and cheers.

CJ_202SB: Cheers and boos for Redskins Donovan McNabb and Mike Sellers at the Wizards game.

BE_PRESTIGIOUS: They just booed Mcnabb and Sellers at the Wizards game lol

Dave Natonski: Donovan McNabb booed at wizards game. Ouch.

Bartholomew Badgett: Donovan McNabb just got booed at Wizards game.. Redskins apparently not doing well.

Erin Reid: At the wizards-lakers game. Donovan McNabb and Mike Sellers just got booed by the crowd.

Elizabeth Brotherton: Donovan McNabb is at Lakers-Wizards game. He was greeted with thunderous boos.

Mimiph: Seriously. McNabb just got boo'd at the Wizards game.

Porter Potty: Mcnabb is at the Lakers game..of course the wack redskins fans boo'd him wen he was on the big screen.

TalleyisMajor: Mcnabb, Mike Sellers and more Redskins at the Wizards game tonight were booed.

J. Michael Falgoust: Wizards fans BOO Redskins QB Donovan McNabb twice when they put him on the large screens. That's cold.

UPDATE: Since I posted this, several other folks chimed in on Twitter. Holden Kushner from 106.7 The Fan estimated that the ratio was 70-30 cheers. Jack Kogod, a longtime Wizards and Redskins fan, put it at 60-40 boos. SB Nation's Mike PRada called it 50-50. Others suggested that it was primarily Lakers fans who were booing McNabb, and that the booing was "not hardcore."

Ironic they get booed at a Wizards game - one of the worst teams in the NBA for 3 decades.
How many playoff appearances for the Wizards? Even with 75 teams qualifying for the playoffs each season?
What a joke!

Oh those awful Philly fans that never appreciated McNabb....ha. Turns out the Skins fans are no better. Shut up.

Im a redskins fan since 1969 .I will not renew my season tickets after this season. This team has NO direction even with the new coaching staff . We need to dismantle this team and select younger hungry players
our offensive line should be the starting point .Trades need to be made for draft picks . Our entire offensive system should be rework with a young faster hungery running back , we get that working every week then we will be the talk of the town .

Actually the crowd was mostly Lakers fans. Which means in DC that they were also Cowboys fans and Yankees fans.

So lettuce C....you have players drawing big paychecks...who are not exactly doing great on the playing field individually and collectively as a team....and you expect a standing O when they appear at events or are shown attending an event? Be real. Your performance(s) as a player and a team dictate the reception you should get from fans.

dbunkr, except he got you to 5 nfc champ games and 1 sb. He's giving us the worst season of his career and the most INTs by a QB in 24 years. So, you shut up.

15,000 people there fawning over a rapist and adulterer, and we're surprised they booed the hometown quarterback?

Posted by: bryc3 | December 15, 2010 9:18 AM | Report abuse

Big deal. So a fraction of the crowd booed. You could show Mother Teresa on the big screen and there'd be a smattering of boos.

Posted by: randysbailin | December 15, 2010 9:22 AM | Report abuse

.... and how do we know that the fans weren't actually booing the Wizards while McNabb just happened to be on the screen?

Completely agreed. The crowd was filled with the worst kind of "LeBron-esque," front-running sports fans DC has to offer.

Posted by: loyaldcfan | December 15, 2010 9:31 AM | Report abuse

Geotherm beat me to it. And along the lines of what bryc3 said, I don't know what to say about the people in the crowd who squealed with delight like they just won the lottery every time Kobe made a shot.

If "China Doll" Wall does not shape up soon, they will be booing his arse soon too. This dude has Oden written all over his 142 pounds. Joke.

dbunkr, looks like someone was waiting with bated breath for a response to his post. When a Redskins/Nats/Wiz/Caps fan pukes on another fan to silence complaints about him being too loud and drunk, then your town can talk.

I think McNabb will do well next year. Shanahan finally has the Redskins going the right direction. We just gotta keep the course.

McNabb and the Redskins are losers they dont deserve to be cheered. Win some freakin games, respect is earned, DC SPORTS TEAMS HAVE SHOWED US FANS NOTHING!

Posted by: MrWillie | December 15, 2010 10:24 AM | Report abuse

In DC, the likelihood of fans being Cowboys, Ravens, Steelers, or other, fans is very high. Until McNabb, Sellers, and Hall are booed at a Redskin event, I am not going to believe a significant number of fans are so down on them that they'd boo them like that. Right after a particularly bad play or bad game, yes. But not at a public event like this. Besides, anyone who blames the Redskins' lack of success on those three are nuts.

Note to alex35332; Just so you know McNabb got the Eagles to five NFC championship games how many did the Eagles get to before McNabb? and how many NFC championship games did the Redskins get to? Redskin fans are the worst, and they don't know a damn thing about football.

Posted by: dargregmag | December 15, 2010 11:18 AM | Report abuse

You mean to tell me that wizzard "fans" would rather boo the Redskins players sitting in the stands over the poor excuse of a team that's on the court?! Truly amazing. Fans need to boo our gun-brandishing, adolescent-minded guard, new, self-proclaimed "Dougie" king and the rest of the no names for their lack of productivity/talent.

Posted by: Neisha_H | December 15, 2010 11:27 AM | Report abuse

For Washington fans to boo either McNabb or Sellers is ignorant and classless. (whoops, that ship sailed a long time ago) The only problem with McNabb is that he hasn't learned to throw from his back. He isn't Brady or PManning(few (2) are) but he is in the next level down. Sellers is one of the most pure "football players" in the NFL. People, go find a life.

Wizards last place, Nats last place, Caps losing a lot, 'Skins on the way to last place, soccer team last place, Mystics (skip that). We need to boo more or not attend. It's really a shame for DC pro teams.

if you were a true sports fan,you wouldnt be at a wiz game anyway, unless you just wanted to see the lakers play.everyone has the right to boo, especially after paying some of those ticket prices(they say that there,s one born every minute),but you,re barking up the wrong tree.take a look at the coaching in d.c that's what you need to be booing about!

Booing is a joke with any of these teams. Unless we're talking the Caps, all of our beloved teams are in rebuilding mode. To boo the young Wizards is ridiculous and to boo Mcnabb is absolutley stupid. He's been here not even a whole season, behind a OLine picked out of a crackhouse in southeast, with no good reciever to speak of and a transitioning defense. The ones that boo are the ones that wanted Campbell out of town. YOU HAVE YOUR FRANCHISE QB NOW! SHADDUP!

McNabb has been disappointing but he doesn't deserve any boos. I'd reserve those for Shanahan, whose arrogance is absolutely crushing the team.

I'm glad SOMEBODY can see it for what it was.

Redskins fans that boo McNabb for not being Payton Manning are crazy. To quote Dennis Green, "HE IS WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS!" He never was a very accurate passer. He's a playmaker, not a passer. Wise-up, idiots.

I was at the game and was pretty sure the booing was direct at Kobe, who had just been fouled and was stepping up to the free throw line. Also, who would ever boo Sellers? The man is a beast.

There is only ONE member of the Redskins team who should be booed and that is Danny "I am a poor NFL owner" Snyder. He has failed every year since he bought the Skins. He needs to stay out of football operations or sell the team. I am not holding my breath because that won't happen until he starts losing money on the team.

Skins fans are seriously riding on the special bus... You get a new coach, new QB, 20 something new players, new offense, and new defense and they expect to make it to the playoffs.. Reality check people!!! A championship team is not built in a couple months. Everybody besides redskin fans with football knowledge knows that Shannon does not have the players for his system yet. It's more frustrating listening dumb ass fans whine than watching the skins. This 1st year we have GM in 12 years and y'all complaining!

There are only two people associated with Washington pro teams that deserve boos. Danial Snyder and Albert Haynesworth.
