Year-end sports quiz

By Dan Steinberg

Some WaPo folks put together this year-end sports quiz, which I'm hereby presenting to you. If you get all the answers right, you win nothing. If you get 6 correct, you win a mini-cucumber. Stop by my office any time to claim your prize.

I'd love to present a year-end D.C. sports quiz, complete with an actual prize, but I'm short on both time and actual prizes right now, and as anyone who's ever won one of my contests can attest, I always forget to deliver.

In the meantime, here's an open-ended D.C. year-end sports quiz question: What was the best date in 2010 for D.C. sports fans? When the Wizards won the lottery? When Ted Leonsis took control of the team? When the Caps won in the snow to extend their win streak to 14? When Strasburg debuted? When Mike Shanahan was hired? When Trent Williams was drafted? For all the agony of 2010, there were some pretty memorable moments.

Anyhow, the quiz.

I think the Strasburg debut was the high-water mark for the year. All of those events brought joy and optimism to the fans of their respective teams, but Strasmas was the only time this year where I felt like everyone in town (regardless of whether you previously cared about the Nats) stopped what they were doing to pay attention.

(7 out of 12)

I got six...but I imagine if I show up to the Post and say "where's Steinz"? I demand a mini-cucumber." I may be tackled by security.

Number one was DEFINITELY trudging through the snow obstacles for some Caps/Penguins amazingness. I'm more of an NFL guy than an NHL guy, but that was far better than watching the Superbowl later that day. Any long time Caps fan that hates the Penguins (and their fans, who were at that game in droves) for the right reasons would answer the same. I understand why some people say Strasburg's debut, and while a very significant moment, and truly impressive, it was the *Pirates* batting against a great pitcher they'd never seen before...Shanahan hire the most important DC sports moment long term, awesome hockey game the most meaningful singular moment of the year.
