Behind the scenes of Ovechkin's ESPN ad

The best part of this entirely solid look at Alex Ovechkin and Semyon Varlamov's trip to Bristol comes when Alex Ovechkin is offered a stunt double for his trip through the set's ceiling. He declines. And thus, the disappearing torso.
The commercial is here, but the making of the commercial is possibly more entertaining. Kudos to Brett Leonhardt, who someone found time to get this baby ready in between practicing with an NHL team.

As funny as the ESPN commercial is, I wonder how many get the now six-month old reference???
Not exactly timely.

CapsNut:
I think you're over-thinking it. I highly doubt the national ad company ESPN uses was going for anything more than a cold war espionage joke.

Ku. Dos.
I know I'm biased and all, but that's quality commercialism.

And the Cold War is more timely than last summer?
I was being generous here with six months!

Ovi has become something of a football fan, so not shocking to see the Redskins cap. Makes sense, they're both physical sports. Campbell used to be a semi-regular at Caps games when he was here. Maybe we can actually get a NFL-caliber team here eventually so Ovi can enjoy the sport at its finest.

Captain A.O. has been to a number of Redskins games. He even made onto the CBS Broadcast in 2008 (wearing a Sean Taylor Jersey and a "throwback helmet").
And here's a great example of "overthinking" an ad:
