DJ Pauly D says Caps fist pumps gave him goosebumps

By Dan Steinberg

Having already devoted eight million words to the Caps' use of Beat Dat Beat as their official feel-good victory anthem, I suppose I have to stay on top of this story. And so, here's the dialog between Jersey Shore's DJ Pauly D and one of the hosts from KROQ's Kevin & Bean Show, who I assume is named either Kevin or Bean. The short version: DJ Pauly D likes what's happening here.

Host: I was watching 24/7, which is a show on HBO, and they were doing a special on hockey teams. Did you see that?

DJ Pauly D: Yeah, how awesome was that?

Host: The most unbelievable thing I've ever seen. So they follow the Washington Capitals, with Ovechkin, one of the best hockey players, and they follow the Pittsburgh Penguins, and they were meeting on January 1st, outdoor game, blah blah blah. So they do the lead-up, and Washington lost like nine in a row, but they finally snapped it and they won a game, and they celebrated the win with the song that they use when they win.

[Audio interlude, featuring Beat Dat Beat.]

Host: I was like, NO EFFING WAY. That's NOT happening.

DJ Pauly D: That's exactly what I said.

Host: So Pauly D, you're the We Are the Champions of the Washington Capitals. That's happening right now.

DJ Pauly D: That's so crazy. I got goosebumps when I was watching it. That is awesome.

Host: Did you see it, or did somebody tell you about it?

DJ Pauly D: Somebody told me about it, so I watched it, and I was like, 'This can't be real.' And then all of the sudden everybody put it on my Facebook, put it on my Twitter....

Host: It was a bizarre moment, because I didn't see it coming. Nobody gave me a heads-up. And they were all doing the dance and stuff, the fist-pumping, and I was like 'What's happening? Am I on camera? This can't possibly be happening.'

DJ Pauly D: Yeahhh. I guess it's good energy in that song, and I guess they were celebrating and it's a ritual for them. And I was like, that is awesome.

Host: Unbelievable.

Yup.
