Alex Ovechkin shoots pucks off a roof

By Dan Steinberg

Word of Alex Ovechkin's latest commercial exploits for Capital One broke early on Wednesday, when saw "dozens of gaffers, grips, extras and the corner of Columbia Pike and Monroe Street."

The site also reported that the crew would be heading into D.C. for a shoot involving Alex Ovechkin shooting pucks off a bank's roof.

The Caps were unable to provide any information on this matter. A source close to area roofs suggested that Verizon Center was at one time an option for this roof-puck-shooting phenomenon. But lo and behold, a kind soul on Twitter sent along these images of Ovechkin and crew atop a government building above the Judiciary Square Metro station. Yes, the top one is a picture of a picture taken through binocular lens.

Anyhow, I believe this is a little-known variant on the "couldn't hit the ocean from the beach" adage about slumping players. Though Ovechkin is sort of out of his slump, by all indications. So maybe they just wanted to hit pedestrians with hockey pucks.

The government is just getting ready in case we start protesting like the Middle East and Europe. Pucks from roofs sting like hell and leave a nice welt, but don't kill. Plus, they'll be signed by Ovie, which will make protesters happy as fans or rich once they sell them on the secondary market. End result: consumers happy, rioting down, and the economy humming along. Thus, no more protests.

I'm sure we'll see this completely rational scenario play out in most cities.

Either an amazing trick shot or a setup with Ovi taking out a bankrobber sniper style.

That building used to be the headquarters of the SEC.

His shot was wide left of his target . Dam puck hit my truck broke out my window ! I really in awe that Brooksie hasn't commented on how Ov needs to practice more , and that the glass was nothing more then a goalie standing on its head !!!

The Caps were concerned about rooftop injuries until they remembered "Russian machine never breaks."
