Wizards road woes are growing Mike Wise's beard

By Dan Steinberg

It's now been more than a month since Chick Hernandez made his ill-fated promise to stop cutting his hair until the Wizards won on the road. And while his Chia Chick look continues to drive ratings at Comcast SportsNet, he isn't alone in hatching a follicle-related Wizards proposition.

Turns out that Mike Wise, his co-host Holden Kushner, and their producer Chris Johnson have all agreed to keep growing their facial hair until the Wizards finally win on the road. I think I might have promised to join them, for everyone who's interested in my own facial hair. And there are potential prizes! Via WJFK:

Keep growing out your beard until the Wizards win on the road! Just sign up to participate now - we'll track your progress as long as the losing streak lasts, post your pics here, and at the end of the streak we'll choose the listeners that have had the most growth during the streak. If you're one of the winners, The Gentleman's Quarters will hook you up with a free cut and shave - an $80 value!

Wise just walked by me in the office, so I asked him what he thinks.

"A lot of people are looking at this as a negative promotion for the Wizards," he told me. "On the contrary. They hold our happiness. If they can win on the road, just once, soon, please God soon, we will be able to look like civilized human beings again."

Tuesday night the Wizards are in New Orleans, which is 19-5 at home. If that's a loss, they don't get another shot until Feb. 13 at Cleveland, which has the worst home record in the NBA. After that, the Wizards don't face a team with a losing record at home until March 18, when they travel to Toronto.

Willikers! Could it be that this hirsute saga has finally made the NBA interesting for me?

Sadly, no.

Umm, so what do they do when the Wiz don't win a game on the road all season (which is likely to happen).

Wise is going to look like a member of ZZ Top before this is over.

That should be Wise's new head shot. The clean-shaven, smirking look in his current head shot has never worked for me. This one looks much better, plus it trades in snark for psycho.

I think INTERPOL needs to take a look at that picture.

Heh, agreed. Wise looks like a henchman extra from a Die Hard movie in that shot.
