Ovechkin cut-out makes Raising Hope
I've already documented the incredible love "Raising Hope" creator Greg Garcia has for the Washington Capitals, and especially for Alex Ovechkin. When we talked earlier this season, Garcia told me that "the ultimate goal is to get Ovechkin to come play the wacky Russian neighbor for an episode, so my son can meet him."
Well, it hasn't happened yet, though I wouldn't count it out. And Tuesday night's episode on Fox had the next best thing: a three-minute scene starring an Ovechkin cut-out.
Not that you need the gory details, but two characters were fighting inside a mattress store, and one character then picked up the Ovechkin cut-out while the other shouted "PUT THE OVECHKIN DOWN," and then there was a chase scene involving many wild swings with the Ovechkin cut-out, until finally there was a crash and the Ovechkin split in half. At which point a touching dialog resulted, including about 700 background images of Ovechkin the cutout.
I mean, that was an awful lot of face time during prime time network television for Alex Ovechkin, whether it was really him or just a cardboard cut-out of him wearing a crown inside a mattress store.
