The national ratings story for baseball vs. football was pretty well publicized this week, but in case you missed it.... On Sunday night, NBC's Steelers-Saints game drew an 11.8 national rating, while Fox's Giants-Rangers Game 4 drew a 10.4 rating. On Monday night, the script flipped, with Fox's Giants-Rangers Game...

Buddy Biancalana brings zone training to D.C.

(AP Archives photos) Twenty-five years ago this week, Buddy Biancalana became famous. The starting shortstop for the Kansas City Royals, Biancalana -- a career .194 hitter at the time, who had more errors than RBI in the 1985 season -- hit .278 in the '85 World Series. He didn't...

The Steinbrenner-Snyder comparisons

(2004 photo by Bill Kostroun - AP) "[Daniel] Snyder, as unpopular as he has been financially successful, is now mentioned in the same breath with another owner-pariah: George Steinbrenner," The Virginian-Pilot wrote in a staff editorial last fall. Look, I have no doubt that Snyder was being mentioned in...

Steve Phillips would trade Strasburg for Oswalt

Chatting at 11:30. Submit questions here. By this point, just about everything sensible that could be said about Stephen Strasburg has already been said. So now it's time to turn to the nonsensical things. I'll go first: Stephen Strasburg ate 17 bowls of oatmeal while skiing through the sand...

Senate catering service spells Bobby Cox's name wrong

UPDATE: Better photos at the AJC. The best baseball story of the week comes from Roll Call, which noted that two big Braves fans on the Hill -- Sens. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) -- invited Atlanta manager Bobby Cox and his players and coaches for a...
