Skins Fans in Revolt

We've got war in Iraq, economic uncertainty spawned by funny mortgages, "bipartisan" negotiations over a stimulus package, an increasingly uncivil presidential contest, Pakistan, North Korea, the Virginia General Assembly's continuing admiration of unlicensed gun sales, and it's cold outside. But our Readers Who Comment want to talk mostly about how unhappy they are with Redskins owner Dan Snyder and his search for a new coach.

This self-selecting sample of fans is really steamed. What's wrong with Gregg Williams, the defensive guru who everyone sort-of assumed would get the job after Joe Gibbs quit? Why would we want Jim Fassel as head coach? He used to coach the hated Giants. Why are we talking about hiring offensive and defensive coordinators when we still don't have a head coach? What's wrong with owner Dan Snyder? Some are even threatening to give up their season tickets. Others are ready to buy them. Folks, this is really serious.

We'll start with dewalker1, whose views echo those of many. He wrote, "Please don't screw this up........hire Greg Williams."

PerthAustralia said, "You have got to be kidding Dan. Jim Fossel. Your man is right under your nose. He's learnt some stuff since Buffalo and the old crew are stying... But why do we want Giant rejects. Stability is the name right now Danny Boy."

Ombudsman1 predicted, "The team is doomed. In a well-run organization, the head coach picks his coordinators. In Danny Snyder's team. He picks everything. I wonder why he just doesn't put [executive vice president of football operations] Vinnie Cerrato in as coach and do away with all this theater?"

pdxskinsfan, in one of many posts that mostly defended Snyder, asked, "...There would be no greater personal satisfaction for Dan Snyder than winning the Super Bowl, and when that day comes, Redskins fans, will you still curse the man that made it all possible? Will you?"

harbirsingh also defended Snyder, saying the owner's "...dilemma is, he really wants to give the job to GW but wants to interview as much as possible to get other coaches opinions on what they would do for the team. I think it's great that he's doing his due diligence and picking a coach carefully."

philipwhite1 had a different take in writing, "Hi. I'm Dan Snyder. I'm an idiot."

wawaweewa asked, "Can we stage a coup and run the team like Green Bay does?"

Danbauchi1 seems to be in mourning, writing, "This is sad: for the players and fans like me. I am seriously thinking of becoming another team's fan. Oh Snyder, what have you done? With all the things Gregg Williams did to this team? All his sacrifices? This is sad."

chris_zz said, "...Several posts make the point that Synder desperately wants to win. That's not the point. The problem is he doesn't know how to own an NFL team. He doesn't know what he doesn't know (football)... It's not his desire; it's his ignorance and arrogance that are sinking the team."

daddycsb pleaded, "...Now Jim Fassel this makes me sick to my stomach. In 4 years no one, not one TEAM took a serious look at this guy and now Dan Snyder wants to bring him out of the freezer to run our beloved Redskins. This is the Redskins the class of the NFL. Please dont destroy our TEAM by bringing Jim Fassel in to our head coach..."

DFi4487 said, "...I don't even want to win with Fassel. If, by some miracle, we win the Super Bowl with him...we would have won with a Giants coach! Imagine the play that would have in the New York City press. "Skins need former Giant coach to win". The whole thing just doesn't feel right at all, and I'm baffled that Snyder doesn't see this!..."

SKINS4LIFE1 said, "If they hire Fassell to run this team, I will cancel my season tickets that same day. Just hire G Williams already, why can't he understand we need some stability? Idiot."

And we'll close with akers553, who responded, "I hope they hire Fassel so all of you people that say you will give up your season tickets will do so and I can get closer to the top of the season ticket waiting list!"

As a long-time Giants fan, I have always enjoyed the Redskins. I remember Slingin' Sammy Baugh, for example. We Giants fans don't hate any team except "Amerika's Team." So -- don't hire Fassel. His play calling is terrible in that he puts his team in a shell when they have a lead (v Philadelphia in '03, for example). And if things go wrong, he freezes. He presided in paralysis over huge meltdowns while coaching the G-Men. Good luck, Redskins -- not too good, of course, but I hope things work out for a bunch of great fans down there.

Voice your concerns on the ultimate anti-dan snyder platform

Posted by: disguntled | January 26, 2008 2:47 PM | Report abuse

From Albuquerque: I grew up in the DC area and lived and died by the Skins. Since Snyder took over the team, I've watched for years hoping that the owner would get out of the way and let football people make the decisions.

Face it: Good business people hire the right people and trust them to make good business decisions.

But you take a billionare football fan and turn him into a football owner and this is what you get: Danny Snyder's playground.

THIS ISN'T MADDEN FOOTBALL. You aren't building a team of avitars with good stats. Football organizations are made of men and it took a man of substance like Joe Gibbs to understand that and turn the organization around.

Dan, for the love of the organization.... and the fans....Get some good football people around you and let them do their job. Hire Gregg Williams. Keep your core players happy.

How does 11-5 with a division championship sound??? You are closer than you think.

You like splashes??? Here is one for you....Go break the bank and hire Joe Gibbs and Bobby Bethard to run your football operations.

I used to get mad when I would hear journalists and broadcasters say the Redskins front office was a joke. But now I can't argue that point. Dan Snyder probably has one of the best minds for business, in the world but he has proven to be one of the worst football minds. Not hiring Gregg Williams was the worst move he could make. The Redskins are a team of mostly veterans and to bring in an entirely new staff would be disasterous. Continuity is EXACTLY what is needed with a team of this makeup. I doubt Snyder has every played an organized sport in his life so he has no clue as to the mentality of football players. This is why he needs to surround himself with legitimate football people (Yes-men like Vinny C. don't qualify). But alas, Danny's ego will not allow this. So we as fans have to sit by and watch our beloved Redskins become the joke of the NFL. It is a sad time to be a fan of the burgundy & gold.

Posted by: DaveVes | January 25, 2008 2:44 PM | Report abuse

I disagree with everybody who says we should hire Gregg Williams just because we, the fans and players want him to be the head coach. The players are getting paid to play, not to decide who they want to be coached by. People in the front office know much more than we do, and I believe we should leave it up to them. They are interviewing every possible candidate, isn't that the best thing to do?
I also disagree with people who mention the word "continuity," continuity with what? Beating four teams late in the season that were pretty beatable? Chicago with Kyle Orton as their quarterback, NYG, who were at that point playing the worst football they could, Minnesota, a One-Dimensional team with Tavaris Jackson as quarterback and Dallas who was playing for absolutely nothing. When they finally played a good team, Seattle, they were completely overmatched and overplayed. Is that what we want? Barely making the playoffs and then loosing in the first round? We need changes to be a better team, a better organization.

I'm frustrated, confused, incredulous, baffled, disappointed, and downright angry. Never has the next head coach of the beloved Redskins been more obvious -- to everyone, EVERYONE IN THE WORLD, except to the one man whose decision is the only one that matters. Joe Gibbs may as well never have come back to the Redskins, because Dan now threatens to undo all the good that has been done. Why??? There is no better choice for moving the Redskins closer to the Super Bowl than Greg Williams. Just when I was beginning feel a little bit of respect for Dan Snyder (as a result of the way he handled the death of Sean Taylor), he throws it all away through his ignorance, childishness and blind lust. I echo the comment of a previous poster -- can the fans own the Redskins like they do in Green Bay???? Has there ever been a fan base more deserving of more than Dan Snyder is offering us?

Posted by: emacco | January 25, 2008 10:04 AM | Report abuse

Get real - Dan Synder thinks he can buy a team, the word team means together -- get real Mr. Synder and use a "team' that is already Jelled and move to the Super Bowl, your money is only going to prolong a Super Bowl win, because players only play when they are very comfotable. Look at the difference in your pre-Gibbs team and the "team" created by Gibbs. All players want the same thing - a win and respect. Money is not the answer you want at this time - you need to have a complete team that want to play together rather than a team that has to play together -- those two words make a world of difference want and have. Think about it.

I am another one who don't agree with the hiring of Jim Fassel. Snyder has learned nothing and the team will be backwards for several more years. It's sad such a prestige organization like the Redskins is in the hands of an idiot with authority.

Posted by: Redskinman | January 25, 2008 4:58 AM | Report abuse

The Redskins have a great following. For years they were the only team south of D.C. I hope Mr. Snyder listens to the comments and doesn't risk losing all of the rabid fans. Hail to the redskins!!

i guess we inherited that curse once the red sox won the world series -- face it guys, we will have nothing but mediocre 6-10, 8-8, 7-9, 9-7 teams as long as the meddling, know-it-all ass owns the redskins, giving lip service to wanting to field a "super bowl caliber team" but refuses to hire a g.m. and really only cares above feeding his napoleon complex and making money. jack kent cooke is spinning in his grave and the rest of our seeking alternative ways to spend our autumn afternoons.

What snyder is doing is intentional he does this kind of thing it seems all the time. He DOES NOT CARE IF THIS FOOTBALL TEAMS WINS OR LOSES HIS ONLY INTEREST IS MAKING MONEY AND CAUSING CONFUSION". Now here is what fans must do..cancel season tickets, stop going to practices(training camp)and games, dont buy anything affiliated with the team. If you don't this owner will continue to do what he does. don't expect any changes from ownership, the fans must bring this to an END.

Man, lots of upset people... the Skins have become a joke, after 38 years of being a die hard Skins fan it is time to pack it in and give up on Danny boy and his ball team. Jim Fassel couldn't even be a successful coordinator in Baltimore, how on earth did Danny make so much money with this kind of eye for talent, it is a testament to the luck of the Internet boom that he could somehow have lucked into such a lot in life.

So long Danny's team... makes me long for Mr. Cooke... I have better things to do on Sunday.

The only coach that could keep Snyder in check was Gibbs. Now, with Gibbs out of the picture, we are back to the days of the Snyder and Cerrato ruining our team.I am a life long Redskins fan, but it is really hard to root for a team that these guys are running, because I have no respect for them, their knowledge of football or how they run a team. If Snyder truly had any of the respect for Gibbs that he claims to, then he would keep Gibbs hand picked coaching staff together, instead of rushing to dismantle everything that Gibbs worked to build. We finally had a team this year that I was proud to root for, given the way they came together, over achieved, and overcame adversity. Leave it to Snyder to ruin all of that in record time. I guess I will have to get my enjoyment this year by rooting against Snyder and Cerrato's team, because they are no longer my Redskins.

THIS TEAM NEEDS STABILITY. Not a new system. They have outstanding coaching already in place. They need to upgrade in some personnel areas.

But don't screw with the headcoaching. Greg Williams is the man.

How the heck can Gregg Williams essentially sit here and allow himself to get RAPED and EMBARRASSED in public like this? What a JOKE!!! You have this entire coaching staff that is twisting in the wind like so many used D-bags.... and your "family" goes looking for anyone they can find while you get to sit there and read about it in the papers.... Then, from out of the blue comes the guy who just decided that he had had enough.... to now serve as the spokesman because apparently your "family" is either too incapable or too GUTLESS to tell it to your face.... so now they essentially get to twist around for another few weeks. If you're a coach currently serving in a good situation, would YOU want to touch this scene with a ten foot pole?? There's more to life than money.... we ARE A JOKE of a franchise!!!! I agree with an earlier poster - it is an EMBARRASSMENT to put on my Redskins attire and believe me - I'm hearing it big time from the Cowboy fans at work - constantly. Now I even have to suffer......

Only in the NFL could a guy who's never gotten it done - as in win a Super Bowl - and whose been fired from his last 2 jobs be considered, much less first in line for another head coaching job! If Fassel gets this job, I'm done as a 'Skins fan.

Can we draft a new owner?

This is just screwed up....
At this point.... even if you choose Greg Williams. The man will have a sour taste in his mouth, in regards to how this was handled. Jim Fassel...... Jim Fassel... Is this the best choice outside of GW. How do you think the players would take this one? You go from JOE GIBBS to Jim Fassel. THIS IS SICKENING. I'M DONE with Danny boy. This would be the most stupid move ever... (topping the ole ball coach disaster)

A finding of "a clear and present danger" would not be inappropriate. Does the principle of "eminent domain" apply to football franchises? We the people could set up the Washington Area Football Authority. 1) Hire the best people you can find 2) motivate and empower them 3) get out of their way 4) intervene only as a last resort 5) start collecting finger sizes for Super Bowl rings! Summary: we have a good team and good coaches at the moment. Greg Williams is the clear choice. - Besides if he did have a bad year, Bill Cower might be available next year. Shades of Marty and Steve...

I agree with those who are commending Dan Snyder for doing "due diligence" in carefully selecting a coach. Having said that, I think it would taint my opinion of Dan if he hires Fassel just as it definitely tainted my opinion of him when he tossed aside Brian Mitchell for Neon Deion.

Greg Williams is the man for the job.. Forget what happened in Buffalo now is now.. GW has stuck by this team no matter what.. What does Fassel have to offer? ? ? ? Another four years of "rebuilding". If he screws up within the next two, Snyder's pompus a** will go out and get some other has-been and do the same thing all over again.... I want Greg Williams more than any one... He deserves it and the players respect him.... If you are gonna cut GW off completely your a fool, but if you do atleast get someone you can build a dynasty with, not someone who is someone elses left overs who will be fired after his first 4 and 12 season.... Wake up Dan and do what you said you would in the interview when Gibbs retired....

One thing missing in all this dialog is the fact that this past year, with all the adversity, the skin's found the one thing that makes great teams great - they found themselves a team. They have something fundementally unique in that and they should build upon it, or at least try for another year. If nothing else it lets the fans, the team, and the city hold our heads up and be proud. In this era of free agency and players moving around, having a real "team" is more valuable than any other commodity. A coaching change that blows that up misses the point entirely.

I am 38 and have been a Redskin fan since I was 5 and can remember Chris Hamburger killing quarterbacks. My number came up on the waiting list and I can now buy season tickets. If Dan Snyder hires Jim "Fossil" or anybody but Gregg Williams I am not buying tickets, jerseys, hats or anything Redskins anymore. After the loss of Sean Taylor and making the playoffs this team needs one more chance to get better. Dan Snyder is a jerk for not hiring Gregg Williams already. I am SO ANGRY my HEAD is going to explode!

Fassel is a great choice. Led a team to the Super Bowl, lost his team and his job a few years later, then lost his job coordinating an offense. Perfect choice.

Of course, I root for anyone playing maybe I am not an impartial voice. :)

Seriously, though, though I want to see Washington get a bad coach, if they wanted a good choice, they shouldn't hire Fassel or Gregg Williams, the latter of whom has a 17-31 record as a head coach - Williams is a defensive Norv Turner, a good coordinator who is, perhaps, not suited to being a head coach. Your team should hire Russ Grimm to be a head coach if they wanted a good choice.

The Redskins have become the laughingstock of the NFL. Sad but true. The small amount of credibilty the team regained with Joe 2.0 has been destroyed in a short 2 weeks. Regardless of what Snyder thinks, the rest of the NFL is not stupid. The more he jerks GW & his staff around, the more he alienates potential top coaches & players. No one is going to work for an owner who makes Tom Cruise seem like a solid citizen. I have this mental image of him jumping up & down on Oprahs couch & thats scary. Even the Arizona Cardinals have more upside than the Skins at this point. Thats how low we've sunk.

Seems Old Danny Boy has a great scam going. Infuriate the old fans and season ticket holders so they migrate out of their seats. Install new season ticket holders with a hefty personal seat license or other such chunk of change/surcharge. It's a shame that this had to happen to the team I love. Snyder and myself are the same age and if he were the kind of Skins fan he claims to be he would know that a successful owner (Jack Kent Cooke), surrounds himself with smart football people and lets them make him look smart. Instead Dan spends his time discussing "theetin" levels with Tom Cruise and letting sycophantic "Vinnie the Stooge" make power plays to the detriment of the team. I don't give a fat rat's behind how Snyder runs those stupid theme parks of his, I'm sure if he runs it with the accuity he does this football team, he'll sign "Bozo" the clown to a grossly inflated free agent deal. Only to see his star clown average about 4 pratfalls per season. (any resemblance to Brandon Lloyd is merely circumstantial, although with some oversized shoes and a big red nose we could probably get some entertainment value out of him)
I suggest using Sunday's in the fall to take up antiquing or elk hunting since there will be very little enjoyment watching our beloved Redskins while "Little Danny" is at the helm.

Posted by: Beaverskin | January 24, 2008 4:11 PM | Report abuse

If Snyder's goal is to win the Super Bowl, then hiring a former head coach with a mediocre record is not the answer. This is the critical reason why hiring Fassel would be an absolutely terrible decision. The fact that this destroys continuity is not that important for a 9-8 team; the fact that Fassel is an ex-Giants coach is likewise not a big factor; the fact that we "owe" it to Gregg Williams is also relatively unimportant What is important is the mediocrity that Fassel brings (58-53).

Great leaders state what they are going to do and then they follow through with it. Inversely, the opposite, aka Dan Snyder, says something and the opposite is true. If he wanted stability he would have hired Williams already and he'd keep Saunders; imagine his offense run with Collins's knowledge of the system, Campbell's ability, and a healthy receiving core. The possibility of that offense is worth another year. Snyder is a kid in a toy store who can't decide what he wants until his mom is dragging him out of the store and he grabs the last option available. If he knew what he was doing, he wouldn't have a sub-500 record as Redskins owner. Fire him I say

When Dan Snyder hired Joe Gibbs as coach 4 yrs ago, it was truely the second coming. When Coach Gibbs decided his family priorities ranked ahead of the Redskins, Dan Snyder publicly said he tried to persuade JG to stay. Coach Gibbs has stated ands reinterated his wishes for continuity and continuation by the choice of Gregg Williams. Any other choice, baring Coach Williams not wanting the job, is a major slap in the face of the beloved Joe Gibbs. Mr Snyder, YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE.

I appreciate the due diligence.

We found the formula at the end of the year that generated success. We had the team and coaches playing on the same page with the same purpose. I think everyone that left the field in Seattle was anxious for July to come so that they could build upon their success. This kind of teamwork doesn't happen that frequently in professional sports. Why are we trying to fix something that is not broken?

1.Snyder sells the team
2.Cerrato is fired and we hire a real GM

- Owner that pays and stays out of the way

Stability breeds championships. Daniel Snyder is not stable. He allows impulse to dictate his moves. He surrounds himself with Vinnie, who only looks the part and tells Dan what he wants to hear. We need a strong GM who is old school football. We need GW to coach. We need to build through the draft and let JC grow in the system. Be stable... Keep the ship moving in the right direction.

I live halfway between Washington and Baltimore and have always chose the Redskins as my number 1 team then the Ravens. I have officially become a Ravens fan. I can't stand Snyder. He doesn't know his butt from his elbow when it comes to football. Yes, he has money, but he will see money will not buy him a Super Bowl. What an idiot! GO RAVENS!

I think the choice of Jim Fassel for Head Coach is an excellent idea. It shows some forward thinking and gigantic intelligence. I really think the Redskin's brass nailed it this time!

You'll see..., you'll all see. And when the Redskins become big winners with championships and Super Bowls and everything. Everyone's going love Danny Boy. You'll chant my.., his name and love him forever.

Yes.., you'll see. Jim Fassel for Head Coach.., you'll see.

If he hires the giants reject the fans need to protest and not buy tickets for a team that is going back to the gutter. Synder wants a yes man like he has in Vinnie I got fired from the 49ers because I don't know anything about football. These two want to play fantasy football and bring in a coach that is going to follow them around and agree to everything they say and bring in the worthless careers are over high priced worthless junk. Synder has no clue! Since he has owned it, he has taken it to the toilet. Fossil was fired by NY, fired by Baltimore, and could not even get the OC job in KC. The only thing that will change this situation is for Synder to sell the team to someone who is not a control freak. Once again, he has turned this team into a three ring circus; trying to hire an OC and DC away from other teams when he doen't even have a head coach. Joe Gibbs is a great person who would not say anything bad about anyone;however, I can not believe he does not feel bad about the way his coachs and players are being treated. No self respecting person would want this job. e.g. Why did Jim Mora pull his name? He wants to stay with a franchise that has some class.

But this...after the way this team came together, to completely ignore the desire of the players and fans, to contradict his own call for unity and consistency, to handle this HC search with such utter arrogance and indifference for all concerned, I now give up.

I'll never defend this jackass again. He'll turn over the staff and personnel, we'll lose for three years, and he'll do it all over again. Dark days are ahead for a very long time.

If the "Danny" hires anyone (Fassel-is just simply god awfull and poor Campbell will have to learn yet another system) It should be Greg Williams. Enough said. What happened to a seemless transition?

If he does the unthinkable, Redskins fans are in for at least a two year transition (we will finsinh last in the division) Campbell growth will retard, Jansen,Portis,Springs, Samuels to name a few will be gone. They will have to blow up the team because the cap and start all over again. But, hey, who's trying to win a superbowl, my season ticket list is long and I plan on putting additional seating on top of the stadium roof and have SW airlines as a sponsor.

If Snyder hire Fassell then it's clear to me that he was not satisfied with the way Gibbs left the organization. In fact, I would say that he was glad that Gibbs left on his own because then he wouldn't have to fire him someday. That whole business about trying to talk him into staying was just a charade to preserve Gibb's ego. Promoting Vinny proves to me that Snyder wants complete control and he didn't have it while Gibbs was there.

Jim Fassel is another Steve Spurrier and will produce the same 5-11 record in each of his two years in Washington. Snyder will then fire him as did the Giants after a 4-12 season, and as did his best friend Brian Billick after he failed as the Ravens offensive coordinator.

Observation - Vinny Cerrato was promoted to Executive Vice President-Football Operations. Snyder: "The appointment formalizes the structure the team has operated under in recent years". Joe Gibbs was the president of football operations under the old structure.
Question - With Joe Gibbs gone, who is the PRESIDENT-Football Operations? Has Danny Boy officially assumed that role? If so, I missed that press release. I can't imagine any well-respected coach would accept Danny Snyder as his president of football operations and I can't imagine Danny truly giving personnel authority to any of the candidates he has interviewed. We need a football person running the Football operations. Not Danny and his trusty side kick Vinny.

Posted by: TBurl | January 24, 2008 12:41 PM | Report abuse

This should have been easy: You let the team transition seemlessly from Gibbs to Williams and keep the same coaches, including Saunders. Let the bond that developed after the loss of Sean Taylor percolate for another year. Give Williams a three-year deal with only the first guaranteed. If the team doesn't make the playoffs next year, Jim Fassel will still be waiting!

Why doesn't this team have a real GM?

You want to know why the Skins haven't made it to the NFC Championship (let alone the Super Bowl) since 91?

No GM.

FIRST hire a real GM who knows his stuff.

Then you let him (the GM) hire the coaching staff. If that's Gregg Williams as Head Coach, great. If not, hopefully the new head coach will retain him as his defensive coordinator. Hopefully he'd also get rid of Al Saunders and his completely worthless 700page paperweight err playbook.

Danny-boy, can Vinny C ASAP.

Do you suppose there's any possibility that Williams is Snyder's choice for head coach, and indicating that he would like Jim Fassel and Rex Ryan as his coordinators (and Jim Zorn as an assistant and quarterbacks coach) Snyder is trying to get Williams the staff he wants? Just wishful thinking, I know, but let me have my fantasy. It's better than Dan Snyder's fantasy.

Fassel is another broken retread whose last giant team quit on him.... he was mediocre at Utah and look at the fine job that he did in Baltimore. What is going on? the danny will never ever live up to Jack Kent Cooke because Jack found a young assistant with a fire in his belly and picked him out of a group of retreads and rejects to make him a head coach... and Joe Gibbs was a hall of fame coach... and not the joe gibbs redo that we just had. Jack could do that because he had good instincts... the danny is not in that league and unfortunately for us, never will be. The danny looks like he is trying to copy jerry jones.... Well jerry played football and knows football... the danny is a jock sniffer and is the laughing stock of the NFL... why is it that Fassel wasn't hired for any of the other head coaching openings the last three years? Is the danny that much smarter than the other nfl owners?? Let's check his record.... Do you want to check the danny's instincts... just look at the mess that he has made since he took over. I am not even sure that he wants to win... he is making too much money losing. And vinney... interesting that no one has ever tried to hire this idiot away from the danny... he has been here from the beginning and look at the great job he has done. It is time for me to walk away and adopt another team.

Why give Fassel an opportunity when he is only a mediocre coach? His record is 58 wins, 53 losses? Yeah, that's who we want to follow a Hall of Famer like Joe Gibbs, NOT! Hard to believe Dan Snyder is even interviewing him. If I were Greg Williams, I would be really annoyed right about now, it takes four interviews after working for the team for some years to make a decision?!!! What about continuity? Guess we are starting over, yet AGAIN!!!

A big fear now is that Snyder has upset the relationship with Williams beyond repair. Did Gibbs suspect that Williams would not get the job and that is why he pulled himself out of the process? I am disappointed with Gibbs for not protecting this more-than-capable staff from what appears to be taking place. Gibbs should have kept the job well into the Spring and then pulled out when Snyder had no choice but to keep Williams/Saunders in place. What atraction is there to Fassel? Is Snyder confident that Fassel will let him be involved whereas Snyder fears that Williams will not let him meddle so much in the day-to-day operations? Fassel will say anything to get the job as no one else is knocking his door down. Are we destined to hear excuses for the next few years about how long it takes for everyone to learn the "new systems"? How frustrating! Too bad the Squire is gone...

I hope all the players who said they'd restructure because they were happy with the current team and staff (i.e. Portis and Moss) dont just to stick it this guy in the owners box. Money can only buy so much and when you treat players and staff like crap, they can only take so much. Eventually, not all of the money in the world (which Danny Boy seems to have) will bring in any player or coach worth having. I wish Sean Taylor would come back and make Snyder look like the punter in the Pro Bowl.

If Snyder hires a completely new coaching staff....he will be throwing away the foundation of a Hall of Fame coaches team.
The team is held together by its leaders...and though Gibbs is gone....if the other leaders remain, the team will stay united.

If you trash the current coaching staff, you are essentially starting over.
This is the best team we've had under Snyder....why screw it up now?
Worst case, William doesn't do well next year and Snyder goes after Cowher next year anyways...

God this is annoying. Even if you have some doubts about Gregg Williams, why shake things up now?!? Hire Williams and if he's no good, let him go after a year or two and start over from scratch (the way we're apparently headed now).

We are just starting to build some continuity here. You brought in Joe Gibbs to establish a foundation for the organization, WHICH HE DID. We made the playoofs two out of the last three years. The obvious thing to do now is to build on the success that we've had.

And the main bright spot on our team has been defense, right?!? So, you want to piss them off and diss Gregg Williams?!? How dumb is that?

Also, we've got like fifty assistant head coaches. What the hell was that all about if not setting the table for life after Gibbs?

And finally Jason Campbell. WTF?!? You want to give this kid yet another offense to learn?!? He was just starting to scratch the surface of Al Saunders' playbook and you nimrods want to change it up and have the kid start over AGAIN?!?! We saw Todd Collins burning defenses late last year (including the NFC champion NY Giants) so, the scheme works o.k.? Give Campbell a chance to really learn it and see what happens before going back to square effing one.

I can't stand this!!!!!!
