Huge delays on Rte. 50 in Md.
4:35 p.m. Update: Post Local Editor Emilio-Garcia Ruiz reports that traffic on Route 50 is backed up about five miles from downtown Annapolis to the Severn River Bridge. If you haven't left for the beach yet, you may want to delay your departure until later tonight.
Original post: The early weekend getaway traffic was slowly crawling on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge due to a multi-vehicle accident on the eastbound span that shut down traffic to all but one lane.
Traffic routinely backs up on getaway Fridays, but this backup beyond the tollbooths had already begun before 11 a..m. and only figured to get worse.
