I-270 South still partially blocked

Mark Berman

Here's a look at headaches facing commuters this morning:

8:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The two southbound lanes of I-270 remain blocked.

-- There are major delays on I-495 North heading to I-66.

-- I-395 North remains slow and crawling at the 14th Street Bridge.

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There was an accident on Park and Kenyon places in Northwest, the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services just Tweeted. They reported two cars were involved and nobody was trapped.

-- They also reported an accident on the Suitland Parkway and Naylor Road in Southeast.

-- A disabled vehicle and an accident are blocking the right shoulder of I-495 North approaching Gallows Road. This could slow traffic in the already-congested stretch of the Beltway.

-- And two of the I-270 Southbound lanes remain blocked.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

An accident at Ritchie Marlboro Road and Pennsylvania Avenue in Upper Marlboro could snarl traffic in the area for the rest of rush hour. The two-vehicle accident was reported to the police at 7:30 a.m., according to Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, spokesman for the Prince George's Police Department. Passengers were pinned in one of the cars, and a helicopter is currently en route to transport them to the hospital. But with both vehicles disabled and therefore creating traffic issues, people should avoid that area for the next hour, he said.

8 A.M. UPDATE:

-- No change on I-270 in Gaithersburg -- the northbound lanes have reopened, but two southbound lanes remain closed.

-- I-395 North is still incredibly backed up at the 14th Street Bridge. But the center lane and left shoulder appear to have been reopened.

7:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- It appears the northbound lanes on I-270 have reopened as well. At this point, just two southbound I-270 lanes are closed.

7:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-270 Northbound remains closed, while three lanes of I-270 Southbound have reopened. The left southbound lane is still closed.

-- The disabled vehicle on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge is still blocking the center lane. The backups are pretty severe, though they generally are at this time of day.

-- An accident on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge is also blocking the left shoulder.

7 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Northbound I-270 remains closed in Gaithersburg. Three lanes of I-270 Southbound have reopened, so one lane and both shoulders are still closed.

-- A disabled vehicle is blocking the center lane on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Three southbound lanes have reopened on I-270 in Gaithersburg. All northbound lanes remain blocked.

-- There's still a disabled vehicle on the Outer Loop at Clara Barton Parkway.

-- I-395 North is backed up at Washington Boulevard and Duke Street.

-- I-66 East is getting very slow at Nutley Street.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's a disabled car on I-495/Outer Loop at Clara Barton Parkway, which could slow Outer Loop traffic down.

-- The left lane of I-95 South at Telegraph Road has reopened.

-- I-66 East is crowded at Chain Bridge Road.

-- I-95 North is pretty congested in Lorton.

ORIGINAL POST:

-- As the Post's Mike McPhate reported earlier this morning, I-270 is blocked in both directions in Gaithersburg. The northbound lanes are blocked at Shady Grove Road, while the southbound lanes are blocked at Quince Orchard Road/Montgomery Village Avenue.

-- A disabled vehicle is blocking the southbound left lane and left shoulder of I-95 South/the Beltway at Telegraph Road.

-- A house fire at 9th Street in Southeast is blocking part of 9th and Valley streets as well as Wahler and Wheeler roads.

Thank you for including the I-270 snafu -- I knew to check on a relative who commutes from up that way because of this and make sure he got in okay. (He's okay, got in late because Rte. 355, which runs parallel, was horridly backed up with people bailing from I-270.)
