Beltway lanes blocked in VA

Mark Berman

Here's a roundup of the headaches facing commuters this morning:

10:20 A.M. UPDATE:

The earlier accident on I-495 South at the Little River Turnpike is now blocking only the left lane and left shoulder. From what I can see on the traffic cameras, traffic is still moving slowly in both directions at the scene. The Inner Loop is also still crawling at Braddock Road.

9:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident on I-495 South at the Little River Turnpike continues to block the left lane, left center lane and left shoulder. The southbound traffic is already pretty backed up, while the northbound traffic is barely moving around the southwest corner of the Beltway. The delays are going to be massive for traffic in both directions, so avoid the Beltway if you can.

-- The congestion on New York Avenue looks as bad as it's been in a while, the Post's Michael Bolden reports.

8:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The I-270 South shoulder has reopened.

-- Westbound New York Avenue is very congested heading to the split from Maryland, the Post's Michael Bolden reports.

8:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-495 South at the Little River Turnpike is going to cause big problems for commuters at the southwest corner of the Beltway: The left lane, left center lane and left shoulders are blocked in both directions (Inner and Outer Loops).

-- Further problems for drivers on I-270 South -- there's a disabled vehicle blocking one of the shoulders at Clarksburg Road/MD 121.

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The I-270 Southbound merge lane has reopened at Germantown Road.

-- I-395 North is still very backed up at the 14th Street Bridge and King Street.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident in Germantown is blocking the southbound right merge lane on I-270 at Germantown Road.

-- The backups are even more severe on I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge.

-- And I-495 North is really slow at I-66 now.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Possible delays in Germantown: An accident on I-270 South at Germantown Road/MD 118 might slow southbound traffic.

7:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's congestion on I-95 North/the Beltway at Clermont Avenue.

-- I-66 East is still crawling at the Beltway.

-- I-495 North is also still crawling at Gallows Road, so that southwest corner of the Beltway is no fun right now.

-- I-395 North remains, as always, a good time for everyone involved. There's congestion for most of the roadway, but particularly at the 14th Street Bridge, King Street and Duke Street.

7 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's some congestion on I-495 North leading to Gallows Road. The backups stretch back to the Braddock Road exit.

-- I-66 East is also crowded and slow leading to the Beltway.

-- I-395 North is congested at Duke Street and the 14th Street Bridge right now.

-- The debris on U.S. 50 West has been cleared.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-395 North is already crowded from the Springfield Interchange to Duke Street.

-- The disabled vehicle on I-66 East after Nutley Street is blocking the right shoulder now.

-- The lane and shoulder on I-95 have reopened at Telegraph Road, so things should be cleared up in both directions.

-- The roadwork on I-95 North at MD 201 has been cleared and all lanes reopened.

-- There's debris in the road on U.S. 50 West before I-95 in Maryland. Westbound traffic might see some delays.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

I-95/the Beltway drivers should expect delays near Alexandria. The I-95 North left lane is closed at Telegraph Road, while an accident on I-95 South is blocking the left shoulder.

ORIGINAL POST:

-- A disabled vehicle on I-66 East is blocking the right lane after Nutley Street.

-- Roadwork on I-95 North at MD 201 is blocking the right shoulder and right lane.

Thus, referring to the original Post, the headline might more accurately say that the I-95 right shoulder is blocked, rather than just saying I-95 is blocked.

"Westbound New York Avenue is very congested heading to the split from Maryland"

what does this mean? what split? i know there's a split eastbound from DC into maryland between BW parkway north and route 50 east, but where's the split coming from maryland westbound into DC?
