I-395 North jammed at 14th St Bridge

Mark Berman

Here's a roundup of the headaches facing commuters during this gray, drizzly morning rush hour. This post will be updated.

8:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-66 East has improved a bit heading towards the Beltway. There's still a lot of congestion, but it's not stretching as far back.

-- I-395 North is even more crowded at the 14th Street Bridge.

8:45 A.M. UPDATE:

Drivers should expect traffic in the area of Eastern Avenue NE and Michigan Avenue NE as firefighters respond to a basement fire in a two-story row-house. The blaze has been extinguished and there were no injuries, fire officials said.
-- Mike McPhate

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The traffic spots are the same -- I-395 North at the 14th Street Bridge, I-66 East at the Beltway, I-495 North at I-66. And there are Metro delays to boot.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident on Route 7100 has been cleared and the lanes reopened.

-- I-395 North is backed up at the 14th Street Bridge and King Street.

-- I-66 East is very, very slow heading to the Beltway. The right lane has reopened, but delays remain.

-- Not wanting to be left out, I-495 North is still very, very slow heading to I-66.

7:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on Route 7100 northbound at Rugby Road is blocking all lanes (the left lane, center lane and right lane) and both shoulders. This is just outside Inova Hospital in Fairfax, so if you work there or pass through the area try to use alternate routes.

-- An accident is blocking the right lane of I-66 East at the Beltway, which could cause delays. But I-66 East is already very slow and sluggish at Chain Bridge Road, so backups are just going to get worse.

-- I-495 North remains very crowded heading to I-66, while I-395 North slows at Seminary Road.

7:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- New York Avenue has reopened between 10th and 11th streets in Northwest, the District Department of Transportation just reported in a Tweet.

-- An accident has closed westbound New York Avenue between 10th and 11th streets in Northwest, the District Department of Transportation just Tweeted.

-- I-495 North is backed up heading to I-66.

-- I-95 North will still have some residual delays near the earlier Franconia accident.

-- I-395 North is slow heading to Seminary Road.

6:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-66 East is very slow at Chain Bridge Road.

-- A disabled vehicle on the shoulder of I-495 North at Gallows Road could cause some delays.

-- The accident on I-95 North before the Franconia Springfield Parkway is now blocking just the right shoulder, but expect residual delays.

-- An accident on I-95/Inner Loop at Annapolis Road is blocking the right merge lane.

6:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's congestion on I-95 North before Franconia, caused by the accident still blocking the left lane and shoulders.

-- The disabled vehicle has been moved from I-495 North.

-- An accident on I-95 North before the Franconia Springfield Parkway is blocking the left lane and both shoulders.

-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 North is blocking the right shoulder at the G.W. Parkway.
