NORAD plans mid-Atlantic exercise
11:45 a.m. Update: People may see fighters flying near general aviation aircraft that are under contract to participate in the exercises.
Scenarios could include airborne terrorists, hijackings, counter-drug operations, aircraft in distress or other situations.
Original post: Exercise flights are planned over Washington, Baltimore, Richmond, and northern West Virginia to test NORAD's response capability to air threats.
NORAD says multiple flights will be conducted next week but participants don't know the date or time.
The exercise will include fighter aircraft and general aviation aircraft contracted by the
Department of Defense.
