I-495 North slow at I-66

Mark Berman

Here's a roundup of the headaches facing commuters this morning:

8:45 A.M. UPDATE:

A pedestrian was hit this morning near the intersection of the southbound Rockville Pike/Highway 355 and Marinelli Road in Montgomery County, the Post's Mike McPhate reports. Fire and emergency officials are on the scene and motorists should avoid the area. (This is what caused the southbound lane closures we reported on earlier.)

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Rockville Pike lanes have reopened.

-- A disabled car is blocking one Outer Loop lane at River Road.

-- I-495 North remains slow heading to I-66, but the other issues (at Leesburg Pike) have cleared up.

-- I-66 East remains slow at Chain Bridge Road and I-395 North remains slow at 14th Street Bridge.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident is blocking all southbound lanes of Rockville Pike at Marinelli Road in Bethesda. This is right outside of the White Flint Metro station.

-- I-395 North is packed at the 14th Street Bridge.

-- I-66 East remains very slow heading to Chain Bridge Road.

-- I-495 North is still slow and problematic throughout much of Northern Virginia.

7:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-66 East remains jammed at Chain Bridge Road.

-- The accident on the I-395 reversible lane is blocking the northbound right shoulder.

-- I-495 North is still very sluggish heading to I-66 and generally slow throughout Northern Virginia.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Some issues on I-495 North this morning. An accident is blocking the right lane of I-495 North just after Leesburg Pike, while traffic heading on I-495 North towards I-66 is crawling.

-- An accident on I-395's reversible lane is blocking the lane just after the Springfield Interchange.

-- I-66 East is still very packed at Chain Bridge Road.

7:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident on I-66 East is now blocking the right shoulder at Chain Bridge Road. As expected, backups and congestion have ensued.

-- A disabled vehicle is blocking the right lane of I-495 North at Leesburg Pike.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-66 East is blocking the center lane at Chain Bridge Road.

6:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The U.S. 1 southbound exit to I-495 North has reopened.

ORIGINAL POST:
-- A disabled vehicle on U.S. 1 southbound in Alexandria is blocking the south exit ramp to I-495 North.

-- If you take Rock Creek Parkway during your commute, read this post by Dr. Gridlock himself. It is a thorough explanation of why you will hate life for a while.

Rockville Pike at Marinelli Road is actually in North Bethesda or Rockville -- the US Postal Service will accept either.
