I-395 North exit to Edsall blocked

Mark Berman

Here's a look at the headaches facing commuters this morning:

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-395 North is partially blocking the ramp to Edsall Road eastbound. While traffic can get by, expect delays as the roadway is already congested and slow this morning.

-- There is rampant congestion on I-66 East (at Nutley Street and Sudley Road) and I-495 North (heading towards I-66).

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The lanes have reopened on I-270 South.

-- Adding to the problems on I-395 North, a disabled vehicle is blocking the right shoulder shortly before the 14th Street Bridge.

7:50 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Ask and ye shall receive, apparently: the westbound University Boulevard lanes have reopened in Silver Spring. They had been closed most of the morning due to a downed tree.

-- An accident on I-270 South at I-495 is blocking two southbound lanes.

-- I-66 East is slow at Chain Bridge Road, and continues to be slow at Nutley Street and Sudley Road.

-- I-395 North remains sluggish and slow, with backups and congestion from the 14th Street Bridge back to the Springfield Interchange.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- It's much the same in Maryland -- westbound University Boulevard closed at Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring. This is due to a downed tree, and there is no timetable on when the lanes might reopen, officials reported.

-- It's also much the same in Virginia -- I-66 East is bad at Sudley Road and Nutley Street, while I-395 North is dotted with spots of nightmarish congestion between the Springfield Interchange and the 14th Street Bridge.

-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 South at Arlington Boulevard is blocking the right shoulder, which could cause delays.

7:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Westbound University Boulevard remains blocked in Silver Spring.

-- The accident on I-270 South has been cleared.

-- I-66 East is jammed and crawling at Nutley Street and Sudley Road.

-- I-395 North is not a particularly pretty scene this morning. It's crawling at the 14th Street Bridge and very congested between the bridge and the Springfield Interchange. An accident is blocking the right shoulder at Edsall Road.

6:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Westbound University Boulevard is still blocked in Silver Spring.

-- The I-95 South shoulders have reopened.

-- An accident on I-270 South at I-370 is blocking one southbound lane and one of the northbound shoulders.

-- I-395 North is now slow at the 14th Street Bridge and Glebe Road.

6:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-66 East is very backed up at Nutley Street.

-- I-395 North is congested at Seminary Road.

-- The debris has been cleared from U.S. 50/John Hanson Highway.

-- University Boulevard is still blocked in Silver Spring.

-- The shoulders are still blocked on I-95 South.

6:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Traffic is starting to get backed up on I-395 North leading to Seminary Road and Duke Street.

-- Debris in the road could slow down U.S. 50/John Hanson Highway Eastbound to the east of U.S. 301 in Bowie.

-- Westbound University Boulevard is still blocked in Silver Spring.

-- The I-95 South shoulders are still blocked.

ORIGINAL POST:

-- Debris in the road is blocking all three westbound lanes of University Boulevard/Maryland 193 at Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring.

-- An accident on I-95 South at Sandy Spring Road/Maryland 198 is blocking both southbound shoulders.
