Up close and personal with big trucks

I've been a fan of big trucks since I was a child. I even had a fire engine pedal car -- and my own fire helmet. That's why I'm excited about the District's Third Annual Truck Touch event at RFK Stadium.

Officials said vehicles of all types will be on display for people to see -- and climb aboard. City workers will even give demonstrations of how the vehicles work. It's a transportation fanatic's dream; a hook and ladder truck; a cement mixer; multiple dump trucks; a front-end loader; snow plows; a Segway; a street sweeper; a police helicopter .... You get the idea. If it services the city, there will probably be a version there.

The Department of Parks and Recreation even plans to have face painters on hand for the kids.

The free event lasts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Lot 7.
