Canal Road reopens

Mark Berman

Good morning, commuters! There's a chance of rain this morning (and a greater chance later in the day), but with temperatures peaking in the 70s (!), the weather is looking relatively decent today. For those of you hitting the road, here are some things to know about:

2:22 P.M. UPDATE: According to DDOT, Canal Road, which was blocked this morning after a tree fell bringing utility wires with it, has reopened.

10:05 UPDATE: Two lands of the Outer Look southbound just past Route 355 in Bethesda are blocked due to an accident.

9:55 UPDATE: This photo from DDOT lends some insight into why Canal Rd. was blocked: Photo of tree down on Canal Road. Took Pepco wires and Street... on Twitpic

8:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The school bus fire is apparently on the 2700 block of Langston Place in Southeast, not the 2500 block as was reported earlier. Again, no injuries.

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A school bus fire in the 2500 block of Langston Place in Southeast is out and there are no injuries. Two adults and several children got out of the bus safely, according to the D.C. Fire and EMS.

-- A tree is down on Canal Road between Chain Bridge and Foxhall roads in Northwest. There are also some wires down and a damaged car. Canal Road is partially blocked south of Chain Bridge Road. Avoid if you can, expect traffic if you can't avoid it.

7:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Lots of issues on U.S. 50 East right now. Well, two issues. An accident is blocking the eastbound right merge lane from U.S. 50 East to U.S. 301. There's also debris on the roadway at Collington Road.

-- One southbound lane of U.S. 29 after Southwood Avenue remains blocked.

-- And I-95 North is still sluggish before the Beltway in Virginia.

7:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-95 North is very jammed before the Springfield Interchange.

-- The accident on U.S. 29 South after Southwood Avenue in Silver Spring is still blocking one southbound lane and one of the shoulders.

7:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A note for Arlington Transit riders: The next ART 52 bus heading eastbound from East Falls Church will be at 7:53 a.m. (as opposed to 7:23 a.m., which was skipped due to an incident occurring on the route).

7:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The U.S. 50 West accident has been cleared.

-- Heading in the other direction, there's a disabled vehicle on U.S. 50 East after Crain Highway.

-- An accident on U.S. 29 South after Southwood Avenue in Silver Spring is blocking one southbound lane.

-- I-395 North is still pretty slow at Duke Street.

7 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Inner Loop accident has been cleared.

-- The accident on U.S. 50 West at Collington Road/MD 197 in Bowie is blocking one westbound lane and one of the shoulders.

-- The westbound on-ramp from Duke Street to I-395 North has fully reopened, but I-395 North is pretty congested at Duke Street.

6:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Inner Loop accident is still blocking one of the shoulders.

-- An accident on U.S. 50 West at Collington Road/MD 197 in Bowie could slow westbound traffic.

-- An accident is blocking the right shoulder of the westbound on-ramp from Duke Street to I-395 North.

6:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on the Inner Loop is blocking one of the shoulders to the west of U.S. 1 and will slow traffic there.

-- The I-270 North lane has reopened.

ORIGINAL POST:

-- Roadwork is blocking one lane of I-270 North at Falls Road.

-- A disabled vehicle on I-66 East at the Beltway is on the left shoulder, but could still slow traffic.

-- A new traffic pattern started on the northbound 14th Street Bridge yesterday. A barrier is blocking the center-left side of the southern half of the bridge. Before you get to the barrier, stay to the left for 14th Street and stay to the right for I-395. Here's a graphic.

Just got a call from my wife. Apparently, as of 8:00 am or so, Canal Road is closed.
