I-66 W to close for rail work
There are major delays ahead on Interstate 66 this weekend, but there are going to be problems during the week, too.
According to Dulles Rail Project officials, Interstate 66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road is going to be closed overnight Wednesday and Thursday because of construction on the Silver Line extension of Metrorail. The construction will allow crews to build support structures to carry the new rail line where it will merge into the Orange Line.
The closings are scheduled for midnight to 5 a.m., p.m. and officials expect to reopen the lanes in time for morning rush hour.
Crews will detour traffic to the westbound Dulles Connector Road, then to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn to the Capital Beltway South ramp, where drivers can rejoin Interstate 66 westbound.
