17th St reopened

Mark Berman

Good morning commuters! Midway through the week, and it's still going to be sweltering out there. Here's a look at the traffic headaches awaiting you on the road today.

8:55 A.M.

-- D.C. Fire and EMS investigating a suspicious package at the Eisenhower Building at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW have given the all clear. There is no hazard.

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Due to the suspicious package, northbound 17th Street is blocked between D and H streets by police activity.

-- An accident on the Dulles Toll Road near the ramp to I-495 is blocking all eastbound lanes, which will create major backups in this area.

-- One Outer Loop lane is blocked at Glenarden Parkway by road work.

8:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A suspicious package at the Eisenhower Building could create traffic issues around 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue in Northwest. Avoid driving through that area if you can manage it right now, or expect potential delays as police and fire officials check it out.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Traffic on I-495 North is slow and jam-packed approaching I-66.

-- An accident on I-395 North at Glebe Road is blocking the right outside lane.

7:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-395 North is still crawling at the 14th Street Bridge.

-- I-495 North is very slow at Arlington Boulevard.

7:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Wisconsin Avenue's blocked lane has reopened in Bethesda.

-- The I-270 North lanes have also reopened.

-- I-95 North is very slow heading towards Van Dorn Street.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-395 North is sluggish and packed at the 14th Street Bridge.

-- I-66 East is slow at Chain Bridge Road.

6:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The lanes on Wisconsin Avenue and I-270 North remain closed.

-- An accident on I-66 East at the Beltway could slow traffic.

ORIGINAL POST:
-- One northbound lane of Wisconsin Avenue is still blocked at Montgomery Avenue in Bethesda due to a utility problem.

-- Roadwork on I-270 North at Falls Road is blocking one northbound lane and one northbound local lane.

-- For later on this morning: Arlington County will begin repairing a sinkhole on the Custis Trail near Lee Highway at about mile marker 12. That should start at 10 a.m., and traffic will be detoured around the work zone.
