Work continues on I-66 E HOV ramp
Crews finished weekend work on Interstate 66 at the Capital Beltway more than 15 hours ahead of schedule Sunday, but additional construction will continue until Tuesday morning as they complete a tie-in for an HOV exit ramp, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The left lane and HOV exit are closed until 5 a.m. Tuesday so that crews can complete the work. According to VDOT, traffic exiting to the Beltway "will be directed to take the right general purpose exits."
Two of the three lanes of eastbound I-66 were closed this weekend as construction crews prepared to shift traffic onto new bridges that carry the highway over the Capital Beltway. VDOt said cool overnight temperatures allowed heat from the 4,500 tons of asphalt that was laid to dissipate quicker than expected.
The work is part of the high-occupancy toll (HOT) lanes project.
