Outer Loop lanes reopened

Mark Berman

8:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Inner Loop's right off-ramp to Pennsylvania Avenue has reopened.

-- The left lane has reopened on I-395 North at Washington Boulevard.

-- And just the right outside lane is blocked on the Outer Loop to the west of the Springfield Interchange, so traffic is getting by. There is still congestion and there are backups, but things are moving again and getting going.

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An improvement! Good news for beleaguered Outer Loop commuters: Now just the right outside lane is blocked, so traffic is moving more smoothly through that area. There's still heavy congestion (on the Inner and Outer Loops), but things have improved.

8 A.M. UPDATE:

-- No change on the Outer Loop. With only the left lane getting by, things are crawling and traffic is slowly inching along. The Inner Loop is similarly slow, with congested lanes and slow movement. In short, it's not pretty on the southwest corner of the Beltway.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The vehicle fire on the Outer Loop continues to block lanes to the west of the Springfield Interchange. The left center lane, center lane, right center lane and right outside lane are all blocked, as are the two left lanes on the ramp to I-95 (exit 57).

Traffic cameras show traffic at an incredibly slow pace, barely moving, with cars sneaking around the havoc by using the far left lane.

-- An accident on I-395 North at Washington Boulevard is now blocking the center lane, left lane and left shoulder.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The vehicle fire continues to wreak havoc on Outer Loop commuters. The left center lane, center lane, right center lane and right outside lane are all blocked, as are the two left lanes on the ramp to I-95 (exit 57). Expect major, major headaches.

7:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Due to a vehicle fire on I-495 South just west of the Springfield Interchange, the right center lane, right lane and right shoulder are all blocked. Expect big delays around this area.

-- Although there are already backups on I-95 North leading to the Springfield Interchange.

-- Debris in the road is still blocking one of the Inner Loop's right off-ramps to Pennsylvania Avenue.

-- An accident on I-395 North at Washington Boulevard is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

6:50 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A disabled vehicle is blocking one of the Inner Loop's right off-ramps to Pennsylvania Avenue.

-- There's bad congestion on I-495 North/Inner Loop in Virginia leading towards I-66.

-- I-395 North is backed up at Seminary Road and starting to show some congestion at the 14th Street Bridge.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A disabled vehicle on I-495 North is blocking the left lane between I-66 and Route 7/Leesburg Pike.

-- A disabled vehicle could cause headaches on MD 295 South at MD 202.

ORIGINAL POST:

Good morning, commuters! Cool air arrives as we get closer to the weekend, which is always a nice bonus. Here are the things you need to know before hitting the road:

-- A car crashed into the front window of a restaurant in Adams Morgan last night, injuring two pedestrians along the way and smashing through the front of the Keren Restaurant near 18th Street and Florida Avenue. After the accident, Florida Avenue was closed between 17th and 18th streets and 18th Street was blocked between California and Florida avenues. According to ABC7, the roads were reopened earlier this morning. It's possible there could be lingering effects on the morning commute, so be wary in the area.

-- Roadwork on I-270 North continues at Falls Road, blocking two lanes and two of the shoulders.
